Small actions are adding up this week.
Three home energy providers offered 17 GW of virtual power plant capacity to U.S. utilities, cutting costs by linking home batteries.
Kenya launched a national plan to restore mangroves and seagrasses through 2035.
A community forest project in the DRC slowed deforestation while supporting displaced families.

it’s not by accident that California coastal habitats are aggressively protected and most of the shoreline is free of mega resorts and architectural clutter.
A half-century ago, Californians rose up against the threat of
over-development.
By the will of the people, the coast was enshrined in state law as a precious public asset accessible to the many, not a private playground fenced off for the few.
Californians rallied to save the coast 50 years ago. Trump is spoili…

True to the promise of
“drill, baby, drill,”
leaders in Washington are doubling down on attacks
against Alaska’s wildlands
and the clean water, wildlife and ways of life they sustain.
Here’s how the administration is advancing drilling and mining attacks on public lands:

I've been goofing off from my usual Winter unemployment to get some warmth along the East coast of Australia.

They oyster shack behind the Clarence River Fisherman's Co-op in Yamba, N.S.W.
People walk on the sand, a baby plays in the water, kids make sand castles and surfers reorganise for their next run around the calm pool behind the sand bar at the Eastern end of Coolangatta Beach.
A giant fig tree in the Mary Cairncross Reserve outside Maleny, Qld.
A man sits with his back to the camera in a cafe on Coolangatta beach. A small dachshund sits on the chair next to the man, peeking over the edge of the table with expectant eyes.

Rant ahoy!!
I stumbled onto the Wikipedia article about foundational psychoanalyst Melanie Klein. I'd forgotten how angry this trash scam practice of woo-woo muckspreader firehose insanity makes me. It's not so much that someone's built a huge castle in the air, because there's a place for fantasy and worldbuilding and daydreams; that's where we get much of our culture from, after all. It's the waste of time and money, and the unaddressed or exacerbated human misery it represents. It's the duplicitous and meritricious posing as being in some way scientific, or reality-based. Psychoanalysts belong in the same circle of hell as mediums who claim to be in contact with people's deceased love ones, or selling colloidal silver as a cure for cancer. Preying on vulnerable people with snake oil, hokum, religious cults and all the other ways the simple-minded are exploited boils my piss. The apparent fact that most of them sincerely believe their garbage doesn't ameliorate their guilt in my book.
