My BBC Model B series 7 case looks a disaster inside, but it's working nicely after a recap; caps 1,2,9 in the PSU. It worried me by not beeping - but the capslock worked, and after pushing the socketed analogue chips down under the keyboard it's good. It's a bit fuzzy on the UHF, but there again that is a terrible lead I used. Just has DNFS and View in. The W key took some cleaning, and the '.' is still not working. Getting the aux socket out of the PSU is a bastard!…

Always impressive how much better a laptop (at least, my various dell latitudes) behaves after a CPU repasting and fan cleaning. This one was a new used machine that I got about a month ago. The CPU sensor showed it idling around 50C, now it idles around 30C.

Don't do full system water cooling if you don't like maintenance. I did a full disassembly and flush of the system this time around. Including a multi chemical process to make sure everything is killed as algae started growing.

Thermal pads are a big pain because they like to stick like glue of cold, enough where you can really risk damaging your hardware if you pry.

Everything disassembled and awaiting cleaning. I used diluted cleaning vinegar.

Reassembled and awaiting its flush treatment. I used EK cryofuel loop cleaner and super flush.

The Epstein Files are wild. While I’m 99.9% sure I don’t know any of the evil folks listed in them I actually know two people here in Milwaukee who did work for a guy who is mentioned in them.

Cleaning up the office a bit and getting the CRTs in there for their permanent home. The JVC fit perfectly beside the audio rack and everything is hooked up without too much issue. Still waiting on the SCART to BNC breakout for the Sony, but even it's now in the office as well.

#poolpond progress today as we approach spring. Need to clear out the backyard enough so I can get a local guy with a mini bulldozer to soread out and flatten out the dirt mountain.
I came to a realization over the winter that leaving the lining as is in the pool with just a bottom of gravel and nothing on the sides is definitely not an option.
Turns out if the hole is emptied in the rainy season, then water will drain into the gap between the lining and earth... bulging the lining out into the cavity. Nope. Not good. keeping water in it keeps things in place, but realstically winter and spring will be when I want to do cleaning and stuff.
So that means I must do my best rock wall building up the sides this spring once the surrounding ground dries. This was my original plan, but I had hoped to do it without grouting or cement. That was a mistake on my part that I learned in earnest in August.
So now, all the various rock sizes piled around the yard is not going anywhere.... BUT at least with the leftovers from the fence i have material to build some forms to help with the wall building....
So that's why my attention for preparing for spring will turn to reactivating the surrounding yard.
So I need to find a place closer to the house to move what rock is left. Ugh. heavy work. And I realized today that someone has taken our garden cart 😢 boo.
oh well, onward we go! There is light at the end of the project!

Beyond stoked. I knew the snowblower didn't start the last time it snowed and suspected I'd forgotten to use fuel stabilizer. That old gas must have gummed up the carburetor, I figured, even though I wasn't sure what a carburetor looked like.
So, thanks to the internet, I learned how to find and clean it out. Success!

Found an old power bill while cleaning up. In the end of 2018 I was paying 9.05 c/kWh for the first 600 kWh and 10.94 above.
Now it's 15.1 and 17.0.
The rate of increase was very much nonlinear though: from October 2018 to October 2024 (six years) the tier 1 rate only climbed by 27%.
It went up 10.5% in 2024 and 20.7% in 2025 alone.

Finished cleaning up the cabling and getting the Beelink properly installed in the minirack. Overall, I miss the Pis because they looked pretty cool, but I'm not gonna complain: this looks pretty good as well.
The doggo wasn't quite as impressed.

Potentially my most heretical musical opinion: The Grateful Dead studio recordings are just better, especially without an altered sense of time. Also, and I’m not sure if this is related, it is some of the best house cleaning music ever recorded. #music #gratefuldead

It's almost 1 in the morning but the kid brought home a nasty cold from school (COVID negative on RT-LAMP but stuffy and sore throat and generally not having a good time) and gave it to us.
Slept a good chunk of the day and now I'm cleaning up the lab.
Every time I think I've put away all the random wafers I find another cassette buried somewhere.
Anyway, this bench is slightly less of a disaster now. Still have a lot of random samples to organize whuch might be…
