We all perform tasks in our day-to-day work that are considered 'non-promotable' – these are crucial for project success, but they won't get you promoted. This is commonly known as 'glue work', a term coined by Tanya Reilly. Join Fatima Taj at this year's Berlin Buzzwords as she shares her personal experience of narrowly avoiding the trap of being permanently stuck with glue work, and explains how to handle similar situations.

you've heard of chemists in the 30's
are you prepared for chemists in the 1830's?
moreover, bunsen himself?

History
Robert Wilhelm Bunsen coined the name kakodyl (later modified to cacodyl in English) for the dimethylarsinyl radical, (CH3)2As, from the Greek κακώδης kakōdēs ("evil-smelling") and ὕλη hylē ("matter").

It was investigated by Edward Frankland and (for over six years) by Robert Bunsen and is considered the earliest organometallic compound discovered (even though arsenic is not a true metal). Bunsen began studying it in the 1830s and had determined its chemical composition by 1843; during…

I coined a new phrase!
Basilisk puppet (n). A person who relentlessly shills for artificial intelligence. Makes strong claims that general AI is happening any day now or that existing AIs can make everyone more efficient and happier. See also Roko's Basilisk.

We have in fact encountered similar things to "linguistic sequence processing". Bullshit artists, politicians with the "truthiness" of Ronald Reagan (coined by a comedian at the time). I have had personal experience being a rabbit in a spotlight where this kind of "thinking" kicks in. Got out of that game, thankfully.

i wonder if brainrot humor worked the same way back before the internet existed. like did victorian era youth make themselves laugh by inserting vulgar slang or opium and alcohol or women dressing like men or charles darwin or edgy jack the ripper references into phrases coined within a children's author / humorist's "nonsense book" or whatever trashy pulp magazines were popular

Coining "#malcompetence" to mean "actions & their outcomes which are consistent with incompetence but which have an overall malicious effect, especially when the incompetence manifests differently in different situations to produced de facto discrimination."
Malcompetence can run the gamut from actual intentional malice disguised to appear as incompetence, to subconsciously coordinated malicious incompetence that the perpetrator is not consciously aware of but which a less subconsciously biased person would not engage in, to truly unintentional incompetence which manifests in a pattern because of bias in oversight/attention/competence-building. These different root causes are often not distinguishable, and sometimes blend together.

Okay, so it looks like I'm not the only one to have coined this term, but I think digging into the different types is still useful.
