People have this weird idea that commercially maintained software would be of better quality, because there are paid developers working on it. On the contrary, the main difference is how much red tape #OpenSource contributors have to go through to get the fixes in. Or the amount of effort necessary to even get someone to look at the pull request before the stale-bot closes it.

Can say what you want about Slackware, but some ports in Slackbuilds are updated faster than you can say update.
Cases in point for me: Vivaldi, Librewolf and Softmaker Office 2024.

I wonder how it comes that people do not "contribute" to open source, but mutilate it. From version 4.9 to version 5.2 the contributors managed to destroy usability and consistency checking in kmymoney. Maybe this is done deliberately by those offering commercial options? (Conspiracy vs just human stupidity). I'm not amused, because it is then hard to keep it out of the updates.

Granted, the intentions seem good. They plan to transfer all rights to a newly founded foundation once things are running. It's just not my cup of tea. I prefer the viral chaos of the linux situation; i.e.. GPLv2 never going away because too many contributors are difficult to find.
