I would be happy if the AI industry actually had to pay authors for their work in accumulating ideas and knowledge and expressing them via their copyrighted works (registered copyright or not.)
The AI industry is whining "we are so big, we need to violate the law, we need to steal the work of others without even the pretense of compensating them, oh woe are we, oh woe are we".

This is genuinely interesting. I’m unsure what it amounts to in practice — protection against abuse, empty symbolic gesture, salvo against big tech, morass of unintended consequences, who knows — but I’m watching with interest.

Under US copyright law the ownership of the copyright is in the person who recorded the video onto a tangible medium, the owner is not the speaker/subject who is in the video.
(A nit picker may note that there could be a copyright in the text of a speech if that text had been written down rather than impromptu. But even then, making a video for the purpose of engaging with the content would most likely be protected as a fair use.)
So this raises a question whether this takedown …

I propose a law that forbids companies from claiming copyright, patents or anything else once they end support for their products.
Then we can do a community rebrand of any hardware and reuse it as we please.
