Meanwhile, 99.9% of generative AI usage is for replacing authors and editors with garbage writing, outright scams, flooding search engines with shit, ripping off artists, cheating on writing assignments, firing translators, creating pornographic images of people who didn't consent, generating CSAM, stealing other people's code and advancing the fine art of low effort enshittification.

Shoutout to the people of North Sentinel Island for protecting and hence creating one of the few places on planet earth that have never been colonized.

The fact that some have had the balls to create Fedi apps and in the process of creating those apps, go "I know how to monetize this! Just make them pay to post!" And people actually pay, blows my mind....😬

There’s people out there who honestly think AI-generated images are worth creating and even worse are worth sharing.
They’re not, they’re horrible abominations that shouldn’t exist.

I've been migrating to ProtonMail over the past week or so. Does anyone have any resources on creating some rules to tag/sort items by category?

I asked this once before, but the current moment is pressing me to ask again--are folks creating separate accounts to distinguish between their professional and personal activities? Laying it on the line, I don't feel able to speak my own mind about Gaza/Israel, in addition to other topics, with an account that is so closely associated with my employment at the University of California.

Alt text doctrine expects that everybody is the same degree of literate, which is simply not true. Many people gravitate towards image-based creating because the process of using words fails them. So, how can we expect those people to seemlessly add words to their images, as if they didn't pick image-based creation processes explicitly to avoid their difficulties with using words?

Or did it always allow and feditext just doesn’t support creating it?

Although my job search has left me generally depressed about the state of the world, I can confirm I have found several cases where the use of ML is perfectly reasonable and actually makes it possible to do whatever the company does, without firing people or creating spam.
So, yeah, my gripe is exclusively with LLMs, Sam Altman and all the CEOs and managers who can't think beyond next quarterly call.
