Freedom!

I wonder when we will have to start to show ID (and let the store keep a copy of it) for everything we buy in brick-and-mortar stores as well.
I guess this is "freedom" or something.

So freaking predictable...

This. I hope the college resists well. Ideally to the point of being like "That's nice dear" to the feds and managing to ignoring them.

Fuck GitHub entirely. Their apology shows a complete and probable wilful misunderstanding of the problem.
I see somebody else is on this topic today! And yes, billionaires will use regulatory capture to the maximum extent they can get away with — so yes, I fully expect the AI lobby to advocate a tangled legal regime where LLM output is copyrighted but copying data to train an LLM is not a copyright violation.

100% this. But also sometimes it's okay. That's the weirdest part.
And we are not yet fully ready to make those decisions. It's gonna be messy as hell, and we need to choose better than a lot of us do by default.

This. Very much this.
We do need to talk about mega solar facilities, though. Vast non-desert areas covered with solar panels are an environmental disaster.
Solar should be everywhere. In patches.…

seeing a future of personal computing with people running open source operating systems on their outdated cyberdecks with scrounged-up hardware from the detritus that datacenters leave behind when the next generation of GPUs and storage becomes available (but only to large corporations)
very cyberpunk
