I hate software packages which decide to make modifications to my $HOME without

I like to keep my home directory mostly empty (and my 'desktop' (whit?) completely clear. It's my $HOME, it should play by my rules.

for decades. Now I’m preparing an exercise where students are to rename all files that do not end in .txt; so something like this should do the trick:

Finding the obvious took me an hour… And why do I only stumble upon such things when preparing exe…

#SmallWinButItsAllIGot I opened this packaging with my bare hands, clearly I am ready to take on a grizzly bear.
(I bent it in half across the top, then flexed it back and forth as fast as I could, thinking that if I could put enough heat into the bend it would weaken the plastic. I don't know if I generated that much heat. But it did weaken.)

Tips I can give you from my experience as a musicial weirdo if you’re looking to redevelop a sense of intrinsic purpose and meaning:
Beware of leaning on extrinsic validation (winning a contest, getting a grant, getting a job) for your psychological well-being. Those things may be important for practical purposes, but psychologically they are all empty calories.
Three •good• sources of purpose and meaning in your work that can sustain you:
- your own sense of satisfaction in your work
- sharing work via meaningful, sustained human connections
- the sheer joy of making and doing
