Kid asked very good question this morning: why is this fossil ammonite in a round concretion? As in how was it preserved? (I explained that in some locations you find roundish stones that when broken in half reveal a fossil ammonite or other fossil inside). But why do they form in these roundish shapes? What is the preservation method.
I no longer remember where this came from but I think, Whitby?

"Keep all of our fossil fuels in the ground..." either means
A) We buy all our fossil fuels and petroleum products from elsewhere, driving & funding further Middle East conflict
or
B) People starve.
Seriously, without modern agriculture we go back to large fractions of the human population starving to death. And modern agriculture means you effectively eat petroleum that was grown with fossil-fueled tractors and shipped with fossil fueled trucks.

Spectacular climate news: EU-ETS emissions decreased by 15.5% in 2023, compared to 2022 levels!
Electricity emissions -24% (more renewables, less fossil)
Industry emissions -7% (less output efficiency gains)
Aviation emissions 10%

Up to a third of Africa’s great apes are threatened by a boom in mining projects for minerals required for the renewable energy transition, new research shows.
An estimated 180,000 gorillas, bonobos and chimpanzees are at risk due to an increase in demand for critical minerals such as copper, lithium, nickel and cobalt, a study has found. Many of those minerals are required for clean energy technologies such as wind turbines and electric cars.
Researchers say the boom in demand is…
