As Francesca Hong surged ahead in the final weeks of the chaotic Democratic primary to be Wisconsin’s next governor,
the democratic socialist has become the internet’s main character.
Donald Trump has mocked her old tweets,
while major figures in her own party publicly questioned her ability to win a general election.
The man she is vying to succeed even launched a late blitz in support of one of her rivals.
But on the ground in Wisconsin, the enthusiasm for her…
The front-runner for the Democratic nomination for governor of Wisconsin is State Representative Francesca Hong, a democratic socialist.
While her victory on Tuesday is assured by most accounts, where she does well — or less well — could reveal clues as to whether the socialist brand can work in a general election in a purple state
Left-wing candidates have harnessed enthusiasm and turned it into actual votes by engaging in superior messaging and organization on the ground.

Lisa Demuth, the Republican speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives,
secured the Republican nomination for governor,
-- edging out pillow salesman Mike Lindell, who had received Trump’s endorsement in the race.
Demuth became speaker last year in an evenly divided House, becoming the first Black person in the role.
Peggy Flanagan,
the progressive lieutenant governor of Minnesota,
clinched the victory in the state’s Democratic primary for US Senate,
beating out moderate US representative Angie Craig.
The AP called the race, with Flanagan leading with nearly 59% of the vote.

This weekend, I was mowing the lawn while watching a woman go door-to-door with fliers. I spent too long wondering why they skipped my house. I suspect the Francesca Hong sign had something to do with it, though.

In a matter of weeks, Francesca Hong, an unlikely candidate for governor in one of the country’s most heated battleground states, will test a message that is at once radical and, to many, incredibly practical:
👉the government should help pay for childcare.
“When we talk about free childcare, you can connect to folks whether it’s on an economic argument or just purely that it’s the right thing to do for our kids,” said Hong,
a democratic socialist running in Wisconsin’s Demo…

Real or not, polling has always presented journalists with a tricky proposition.
There’s something irresistible about them.
Hard numbers that appear to measure an election before it’s actually been decided? -- Who doesn’t want that?
But polls are estimates, not predictions.
Their usefulness depends heavily on who conducted them,
who they surveyed and how.
Even the most legitimate polls can produce misleading snapshots of a race when stripped of that contex…
This is a unique opportunity for #Wisconsin and I look forward to Governor Hong.

Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez dropped out of the Wisconsin Democratic governor primary Friday,
citing her campaign’s mishandling of financial reports.
Her departure from the race is a blow to the state’s more establishment wing,
leaving two progressives
— former Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes
and state lawmaker Francesca Hong
— as the leading Democratic candidates in the battleground state
