The French government is pressing the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to
release the 86-year-old French widow of a military veteran from immigration custody after she was detained earlier this month.
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents detained
Marie-Therese Ross in Alabama on 1 April after she overstayed her 90-day visa, according to DHS.

French MPs are preparing to vote on a law that treats criticism of Israel as antisemitic and widely expands the scope of terrorism legislation.
Lawmakers will debate the bill informally dubbed Yadan’s Law
– in reference to the MP who proposed the bill, Caroline Yadan
– on 18 April.
Under current law, “direct” incitement to terrorism is punishable by five years in prison and a €75,000 fine.
