Femtosecond photocurrents by the Dresselhaus bulk spin-galvanic effect in an inversion-asymmetric ferromagnet
We study ultrafast photocurrents in thin films of a model ferromagnetic metal with broken bulk inversion symmetry, the half-metallic Heusler compound NiMnSb, following excitation with an optical pump pulse with photon energy 1.55 eV. Remarkably, in terms of the direction of the sample magnetization M, all photocurrents are found to be a superposition of a component with Rashba- and Dresselhaus-type symmetry. It's #hosta season! With a new #huecheca/coral bells.
And hidden in the #vinca, this little #hydrangea cutt…

A patch of garden with a variety of potted hostas. Gotta pot them here or voles and chipmunks and whatnot will attack them from underground. Some lilies are growing up among the hostas. A newly-purchased "caramel" coral bells (heuchera) joins the party in its temporary nursery pot. A painted metal sunflower with bumble bee sits in the back of the garden, and an old rusting bird house is in front of the plants.
Zooming in on the first photo, a little hydrangea has sprouted a half-dozen or so leaves, among a carpet of vinca vines. This hydrangea was a cutting I rooted last year. I thought for sure it was a goner, but life... finds a way.
