Damn; I went to debug why Model B wouldn't write to floppies and...it worked. Yesterday when I got a scope on the write-data line on the drive end it didn't budge at all. By the time I'd got the beeb open today, moved the keyboard and stuffed a scope probe on the gate between the 8271 and the drive it all got nice friendly data there. Hmm.
Took the IC80 out, gave the legs a rub and a bit of contact cleaner, and hmm ok.

On the the Golden Gate betas the new MenuBarAgent seems to hang all the time and it makes day to day user very difficult as most apps these days seem to default to the menu bar over the dock without enabling a specific option per application. So I don't normally post much about music, and musically I'm sort of a bit of a shut-in, not really keeping up with much at all or listening to very many genres. Heck, maybe this is a common trope and I'm just unaware of that...
But I was blown away by the transition from about 0:38 to 0:46 in track 3 (Gate to Gades) of disc 2 (Of Men) of the recent "Lufia II: Of Gods and Men" Overclocked Remix album. I won't spoil it, but playing it from my phone in the car via bluetooth (not streaming, just from phone memory) the first part had me going for a second and then I laughed out loud when the transition completed.

Abstract: Benchmarks for evaluating large language models on register-transfer-level (RTL) hardware design have proliferated rapidly, yet none reports having applied mutation testing, an established hardware-verification technique for quantifying testbench quality, to ask whether its own testbenches are trustworthy. A testbench that never fails is not evidence of a correct design; it may simply never stimulate the logic that is actually broken. We introduce GateTruth, a mutation-testing engine and methodology for auditing RTL benchmark testbench rigor: inject a deterministic, seeded set of semantic mutants into a reference design and measure what fraction the testbench catches.
We validate the methodology against our own 68-task, dual-track reference suite -- 60 specification-to-RTL generation tasks and 8 agentic-repair tasks, scored through a pinned, deterministic synthesis-to-timing flow with correctness enforced as a strict gate -- certifying that 46 of 60 Track A testbenches kill at least 95% of injected mutants under sequential, reproducible execution; we disclose why the other 14 do not, including a Goodhart effect on testbenches revised to pass this gate. We then point the same engine, unmodified, at RTLLM v2.0, a widely adopted external benchmark: of 46 auditable designs, 72% fall below the 95% floor our own suite is held to, and three score 0% outright.
A comparable audit of NVIDIA's CVDP benchmark is structurally impossible: its public release withholds reference solutions, removing the golden RTL mutation testing requires. Auditing our own instrument also surfaced a second finding: an initially uniform 4096-token output cap silently truncated three of seven evaluated models, and re-running at 16,384 tokens moved one model from fifth place to first. We argue mutation-kill certification should become a standard reporting requirement for RTL-generation benchmarks generally.

Abstract: Meditative expertise involves sustained attention, rapid recovery from distraction, and coordinated dynamics of large-scale brain networks. We present a computational phenomenology of focused-attention meditation traversing four attractor states: breath focus, mind-wandering, meta-awareness, and redirect attention. Within a dual-process active inference formulation, the model implements a three-layer nested Markov-blanket architecture: (L1) a high-dimensional physiological neuronal substrate modeled as a stochastic multivariate Ornstein--Uhlenbeck process over attentional Yeo networks; (L2) a low-dimensional generative model (System 1) that encodes latent mental content as thoughtseeds and evaluates autonomic action tendencies; and (L3) an agentic metacognitive monitor (System 2) that implements a Global Neuronal Workspace (GNW) capacity bottleneck to selectively gate these tendencies. In L3, meta-awareness functions as the GNW ignition signal, derived from policy-prior divergence and dynamically gated by direct competition between orchestrator and distractor thoughtseeds. Policy selection actively minimizes expected free energy, and L2 actions furnish descending predictions over network activity to close the enactive perception--action cycle. Training uses variational Expectation-Maximization (EM) across expert and novice phenotypes. Simulations reproduce behavior consistent with empirical observations and findings in contemplative neuroscience, providing a tractable link between first-person phenomenology and objective neurophysiological measures.

Abstract: Background: Ultrafast Time-of-Flight (TOF) information in Gate 10 simulations enables direct 3D PET reconstruction without scanner-specific modeling. Although such picosecond timing is not achievable in current detectors, simulated data allow exploration of idealized TOF regimes and rapid evaluation of prototype PET designs. Methods: The TOF-driven reconstruction assigns each coincidence to its annihilation position using sub-picosecond timestamps, producing voxelized 3D histograms with flexible voxel size and field-of-view selection. The approach operates directly on Gate-sorted coincidences, requires no corrections, and outputs MHD/DICOM images. Timestamp precision (~10^-13 s) enables localization on the millimeter scale. Results: Full 3D images of the simulated INSPIRE PET scanner are generated in under one second. The method resolves 0.25 mm features in point-source studies and 1.2 mm rods in the Derenzo phantom, reproduces ground-truth activity distributions in image-quality tests, and maintains quantitative stability across geometries. Performance reflects the theoretical benefits of ultrafast TOF rather than current detector capabilities. Significance: This fast, geometry-agnostic reconstruction tool supports early-stage PET prototyping, allowing rapid assessment of spatial resolution, sensitivity, and uniformity without implementing complex reconstruction software. It is broadly applicable to any simulated PET system with sorted coincidences and enables systematic exploration of ultrafast TOF performance in a controlled environment.

Abstract: Broken Object-Level Authorization (BOLA), also known as Insecure Direct Object Reference (IDOR), has topped the OWASP API Security ranking since 2019 and is the root cause of some of the largest exposures of applicant data in recruitment technology. The defining feature of this flaw class is that a malicious request is byte-for-byte indistinguishable from a legitimate one, which is precisely why web application firewalls and single identity scanners fail to catch it. We present AuthProbe, an open-source, black-box scanner that detects BOLA and IDOR in HTTP APIs by driving its tests from an OpenAPI specification and by acting under two or more identities that the operator controls. AuthProbe discovers, for each identity, the objects that identity legitimately owns, then attempts to read one identity's objects while authenticated as another and confirms a leak by comparing the response against a ground-truth fetch by the true owner. It also walks predictable identifiers to expose enumeration and reports missing authentication and existence oracles. The tool returns a severity-thresholded exit code and machine-readable reports so that it can gate a continuous integration build. On a synthetic recruitment API in which the McHire failure class is reproduced, AuthProbe detects every planted cross-identity read with no false positives on a hardened counterpart, and its running time grows linearly with the number of objects under test. AuthProbe is released under the Apache 2.0 license with an authorized-use guardrail.

Then spent most of the time finding the level in the back corner and gradually extending the dirt out toward the middle. It's coming along.

Abstract: Logic synthesis transforms RTL designs into gate-level netlists, where PPA results are highly sensitive to the choice of optimization commands, making synthesis tuning both high-dimensional and expensive. Previous approaches fall into two categories: automated methods, which perform black-box search over fixed action spaces with limited decision-level interpretability, and LLM-based methods, which typically generate static scripts upfront and cannot adapt to evolving circuit states. We present SynAct, an adaptive closed-loop LLM reasoning--acting agent that iteratively diagnoses live synthesis reports and reasons over the current circuit state, retrieved tool knowledge, and historical optimization experience to issue targeted commands. SynAct focuses on improving timing, particularly worst negative slack (WNS), while maintaining balanced area and power trade-offs. Experiments on a commercial synthesis tool across 14 designs show that SynAct reduces average WNS to 27% of that from bootstrap synthesis.
