A 1999 Oklahoma newspaper clipping that described a man’s final moments before execution inspired Julie Green to begin their series “The Last Supper.”
“He asked for a final meal of three fried chicken thighs, 10 or 15 shrimp, tater tots with ketchup, two slices of pecan pie, strawberry ice cream, honey and biscuits and a Coke,” they read aloud in a short documentary about the series.
You can see 377 plates Green painted with these last meals at the Georgia Museum.

A detail of Julie Green's "The Last Supper," an art project in which Green painted the requested last meals of incarcerated people on death row in blue on found ceramic plates. The image shows about 30 plates, hung close together on a gallery wall.

Today on virtual reference a patron asked if the chat was with a human or AI - that was their only question, and they were happy to hear it was a person.
Thankfully they took my word for it. I wasn't sure what I could tell them that wouldn't be interpreted as, "that's just what a chatbot _would_ say..."

One of our favorite year-end features is the #UniversityOfGeorgia photographers' round-up of their favorite photos of the past year. Even when our museum isn't in it, it's fun to see their great work and to read their thoughts on the combination of art and luck that makes for a great photo.

We're happy to be teaming up with the Athenaeum at the Lamar Dodd School of Art (#UniversityOfGeorgia), on a pair of exhibitions focusing on #BeverlyBuchanan. Known nationally as a bold experimental artist who worked in land art and video as well as more familiar forms, she lived in Athe…

A small sculpture by Beverly Buchanan titled "Shot Gun House." It's mostly painted a dark barn red, made of and decorated with found materials including buttons and a Georgia license plate for the roof. A sign with the words "shot gun" appears on the side.

Museums don't build job skills. That's what many people think. But our newest experiential learning program is not only preparing these #UniversityOfGeorgia students for their next step, it's also building bridges between campus and community.

Student gallery teacher Samaya Porter leads an activity in the museum's studio classroom that involves making animals out of air-dry clay.
