Scientists just found a game-changing way to check on dolphin health without stressing them out.
Researchers at Flinders University are using drones with thermal cameras to measure dolphin body temperature and breathing rates from above. No more invasive capture methods or stressful probes—just non-invasive monitoring that keeps dolphins safe while giving conservationists the data they need.

"Despite their promises, governments’ new emission-cutting plans submitted for the Cop30 climate talks taking place in Brazil have done little to avert dangerous global heating for the fourth consecutive year, according to the Climate Action Tracker update.
The world is now anticipated to heat up by 2.6C above preindustrial times by the end of the century"

Analysis: of the 8,808 global data centers in October 2025, ~7,000 are in areas outside the optimal 18C to 27C temperature range; 600 are in areas above 27C (Rest of World)

In 1987, a management consultancy concluded that the Netherlands should aim for a coal economy by 2050 ('cheap and abundant'). At Ecofys, we were surprised: can't be, we'd ruin our climate.
CO₂ concentration was at 350 ppm, global temperature increase at 0.6°C.
Now, 38 years later, I read: first tipping point reached.

Headline on front page of Dutch newspaper Trouw:
First domino in climate crisis is about to fall (mass die-off of coral reefs)

"We are now at a critical juncture. We are at or very close to human caused environmental change that will fundamentally unpick the life-sustaining systems on Earth. These risk triggering feedback loops...
Ultimately that could cause the planet to drift away along the pathway to “hothouse Earth”, a scenario where even if emissions were reduced, self amplifying feedback loops would drive global temperature increases up to or even beyond 5°C"

Infographic of the timeline of climate change and the missed attempts to correct it, showing the two options we have left as 'Social Unrest...' or 'Degraded future, destabilised Earth system and societies'. The latter is the course we're on.
