Abstract: Security protocol verification relies on formal tools such as ProVerif and OFMC. This study evaluates whether Large Language Models (LLMs) can perform comparable analysis. We test GPT and DeepSeek in chat and reasoning modes over three runs on 130 obfuscated AnB/AnBx protocols covering 388 security goals, scored against ProVerif and OFMC. Chat models reach 69 to 81% recall at precision below 31%. Reasoning models reverse this trade-off, reaching 66.5% precision for GPT and 45.4% for DeepSeek, but detect just over half the attacks. DeepSeek's two modes share one underlying model, so the comparison isolates reasoning itself, which raises precision from 27.2% to 45.4%. The GPT contrast spans a model-version change and is only suggestive. All models perform worst on authentication goals: reasoning models detect well under half of injective and non-injective agreement attacks, whereas chat models over-flag them at low precision. Confidentiality is the exception, with F1 up to 95.7% in reasoning mode. Verdicts are unstable across runs, identical on 89.7% of goals for GPT but 74.0% for DeepSeek. Self-reported confidence is uniformly high yet shows no meaningful correlation with correctness. On this benchmark LLMs do not match formal verification, but may serve, at best, as pre-screening filters.

I'm learning to set very simple goals just atm as life is quite demanding and I hate never getting any traction on my mental to do list.

Been working on a project->many plans->worklist with Claude for ages but always struggled to keep track of progress and goal over 10 or 20 step pieces of work.
Made it write me a tool to view all the markdown files, real time updating etc. This helps SO MUCH.

Abstract: Electron is a popular framework for building cross-platform desktop applications using web technologies. Such applications consist of multiple processes with different privilege levels that communicate via message passing. When inter-process messages carry attacker-controlled inputs, they can propagate across processes and reach privileged APIs, e.g., command execution. Such a message propagation behavior is characterized as Message Progression Vulnerabilities (MPVs). The exploitation of MPVs is challenging because it often requires multiple steps, e.g., first arbitrary code execution in one process via message passing, and then command injection in another process using another message crafted in the first process. To our knowledge, existing works on Electron security only study unsafe configurations and malicious Document Object Model (DOM) content, i.e., they cannot detect or exploit these vulnerabilities that need to be triggered by complex cross-process exploits via message passing. We present Proton, a segmented directed fuzzing framework for detecting MPVs. Our key insight is to decompose end-to-end fuzzing into per-process segments along message-passing boundaries, where the goals of fuzzing each segment are either: (i) reaching a sink in the current process or (ii) propagating the payload to the next process, to enable the exploration of another process. In the second case, the messages seed the corpus of the next segment. Finally, Proton synthesizes crash inputs from each process to validate end-to-end exploits. We evaluate Proton against 589 real-world Electron applications, resulting in 23 zero-day MPVs. Among them, 22 lead to OS command execution, including projects with over 50k GitHub stars. We responsibly disclosed all findings. To date, we have received 13 acknowledgments, 11 fixes, and 11 CVEs, including a bug bounty from Vercel.

Abstract: A walking fly steers toward a goal direction, held as a bump of activity across the FC2 neurons of the fan-shaped body. These neurons also inhibit one another over distance, more strongly the farther apart they are, a feedback proposed to keep the fly on a single goal. We asked, from the connectome, what circuit produces this inhibition, and whether it lets FC2 actively choose one goal among competitors (a winner-take-all) or simply keeps a goal set elsewhere as one clean bump. Tracing the wiring in a single FlyWire brain, we find the inhibition is almost entirely global: four FB5A cells inhibit every FC2 neuron roughly equally, with a smaller, distance-dependent contribution from hDelta interneurons and a negligible direct component. A ring-attractor winner-take-all (the kind the compass uses) requires local recurrent excitation that the FC2 wiring lacks, so this geometry cannot build one; and across a range of dynamical models, including a spiking network, no version of the circuit locks onto a winner at the connectome-scaled reference coupling. FC2 therefore normalizes an externally set goal rather than selecting it, with FB5A likely acting as the global normalizer, much as the APL neuron does in the mushroom body. We are explicit about two open points: a different mechanism, mutual inhibition between two competing goals (which hDelta supplies), could in principle select at very strong coupling, and we bound rather than exclude it; and FB5A's inhibitory identity is a low-confidence prediction of the connectome's transmitter classifier, not yet measured, and likely not GABAergic. We then ask where the goal is actually set: the connectome nominates an upstream hDelta network and rules out the leading proposed alternative, whose neurons supply under 0.2% of FC2's input. Finally, we propose a direct experiment, silencing FB5A while imaging FC2, that would test the account.

I am quite certain that Stephen Miller et al •wanted• and •expected• an ICE agent to get killed in Minneapolis, assumed based on their misunderstanding of our response to the murder of George Floyd that that's what would happen, were baffled when it didn't, and finally cut back the invasion not because they were shamed out of town but because when 2–3 days passed after they killed Alex Pretti and •still• nobody killed any ICE agents in retaliation, they decided it just wasn't going to happen and they needed to try a different approach. Let's actually talk about the "AI destroying the world" thing. One specific apocalypse scenario is the "paperclip maximizer" problem. The scenario goes that a super intelligence is tasked with maximizing the number of paperclips produced by a company. Because of a thing called "instrumental convergence," the AI kills all humans to prevent them from shutting it down, then it destroys everything else strip mining the Earth, etc.
Basically, the intelligence doesn't understand the actual goal of helping people hold paper together and therefore calculates intermediate goals that violate the *implicit* goal in order to fulfill the *explicit* goal.
The thing is, that's just capitalism. The whole AI scam is an example of this, where maximization of quarterly profit is an explicit goal and "destroying human civilization and most life on Earth through climate change" is a side effect of the "build as many datacenters as possible" subgoal.
Capitalism has been an apocalypse manifesting malicious intelligence since we figured out that burning fossil fuels changes the climate, back in 1824.

We are facing global petro-fascism, centered in the US. We have to start threat modeling like an insurgency.
There are two basic goals an insurgency needs to keep in mind at all times: minimize the collateral damage in attacks against the opponent, maximize collateral damage in attacks from the opponent.
A successful insurgency will carefully target their enemy, specifically focusing on the most obvious infrastructure and symbols of oppression.
Meanwhile, they will make sure that their own infrastructure is intermixed with the general population.
What does this mean concretely? Minimize "anarchist hosting." Hosting should be free to community projects of all types. It should be inclusive. When it's shut down, it should take as many other groups with it as possible. This radicalizes other groups.
Optimally, it should provide cheap hosting for small businesses and cheap or free hosting for small community organizations.
There also needs to be a backup plan, because things *will* be attacked...

The conclusion we came to was that there was •no• storage medium that met their long-term preservation goals — true then, and almost certainly still true today. The best approach is perpetual and redundant forward copying of the data, from one physical storage device to another.
