Following federal cuts to history-focused organizations, the president of the Canadian Historical Association, Colin Coates, sent this letter to Marc Miller, the Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture.
One thing might not be obvious: Coates's reference to Carney's recent Quebec City speech suggests Canadians' need for historical context right now. He doesn't agree with Carney's claims. In fact, most Canadian historians would dispute them.

What do people here make of that Simon Reynolds book, ‘Energy Flash’? I enjoyed sections of it, didn’t agree with the opinions of others, found the writing nice - but don’t know how accurate it is as a “history of rave and dance culture” since I wasn’t there.

I just can’t agree with this. I mean…yes, I feel for the guy. I’ve never been in his position. I don’t know what kind of pressure he was under.
What I •do• know is that if you publicly, eagerly capitulate to fascists, whatever reasons you might have for that, you accept the consequences of that choice. Collaborators who capitulated out of self-preservation instead of belief are still collaborators.
