A reader reports that when the patient died, the attending doctor
recorded the following on the patient's chart: "Patient failed to fulfill
his wellness potential."
Another doctor reports that in a recent issue of the *American Journal
of Family Practice* fleas were called "hematophagous arthropod vectors."
A reader reports that the Army calls them "vertically deployed anti-
personnel devices." You probably call them bombs.

Sam Altman: "What if an inhuman AI took control of the world by manipulating people's behavior but its core directive was to make paper clips and it burned down the planet to do that? This is so scary and it's a real thing you should be worried about!"
Governments: "Oh boy that's scary we'll make special rules to invest in your company so you can save us from this frightening possibility. Will we restrict or discourage AI use/development? Haha no that would be foolish!"
Me: "What if an inhuman handful of corporate charters took control of the world by manipulating human behavior but their core directive was to maximize venture capital and they burned down the planet to do that? ..."
Governments (sponsored by said corporations): "Send in the SWAT teams now, this idea is dangerous!"

No lolly for me! Today’s #NYTSpellingBee felt like a bit of a slog as I brute-forced a handful of holdouts to reach #QueenBee—and grumbled at the irritating omissions. 🍭

Illustration of the Queen Bee achievement for the New York Times’ Spelling Bee game for June 28, 2025.

The image features a simple geometric drawing of a smiling bumblebee with a crown on her head. The daily puzzle featuring letters “(O) A G L N P Y” in a hexagonal honeycomb layout is represented below the words ”Queen Bee June 28, 2025.”
