something I didn't need for a Sunday morning: my #Ubuntu 25.10 media machine will no longer login via gdm3 since the last upgrade, I can use a console to run gnome-shell -wayland without issue, but the gdm3 (even re-installed) just returns to the list of users and after the first attempt will no longer offer to enter passwords and hangs.
I did inadvertently leave my keyboard unlocked and two cats in the house left unattended, but it was logged into the guest account, so I doubt they did this 😅
Curiously their snap-edition "firefox -kiosk <url>" now also hangs.
I don't want to spend too much on this: as soon as no.4 son drops by to unlock the broken Win10 and fetch his stuff, I will wipe the thing to install Debian 13 anyway.

Rano wstaję i patrze, że przyszedł mi mail, że moje hasło zresetowane... No i czuję już, że nie jest dobrze. Otwieram laptopa - uff, sesja nie wygasła - zmieniam hasło. Dzwonię do znajomego - jeszcze nie odbiera. No to chce wejść na dalej wp-admin panel - wywala mi sesje. Co otwieram - wywala mnie. Hasło działa, ale admin panel co kliknięcie wyrzuca.

Ghost in the friendly and interactive shell (fish):
I removed a `set -x VARNAME ...` line from my fish config.
Spawning a new shell still had that variable.
I ran `set -e VARNAME`. For the current shell, it's gone.
Spawning a new shell again, I got it back. What..?
Okay, so I closed _all the fish instances_.
And the damn env var came back *again*!?!
Looks like that's because it's my login shell.
A fresh login session no longer had it.

@… I've since found if I VNC into my RasPi5 and run Remmina there, it can RDP into Gnome on Pop. The same login credentials fail in every iPad app.
