(yes, I'm avoiding a link to Failbook):

facebook post:

Luca Mtakatifu asks:
"How on earth does 'e.g' stand for 'for example?"

Merriam-Webster replies:
"E.g., comes from the Latin 'exempli gratia,' which means 'for example.'
Also, 'i.e.' comes from the Latin 'id est,' which means 'that is.'
Way to remember:
e.g. = example given
i.e. = in essence
I reply:

And of course now I'm trying to imagine what things will be like millenia from now when all of the cool kids will be using Ancient English to show off their erudition and we'll be seeing shit like:

Roger Crew I was a little surprised Google translate was actually able to translate that.

If "extravagant" means "exceeding the limits of reason or necessity", you'd think "vagant" means "at/within limits of reason or necessity", but no, English has to screw with us. 😠

Another great panel (I am often down on panels). Catherine Tait from @newpublic.org very much saying traditional media & public broadcasters “are over”.
I think bringing a static website to a network battle doesn’t work. People don’t “live” on public broadcaster websites. bsky.app/profile/bmann.ca/post

Derrick Ross from Shakespeare reckons there open web is in trouble because you got to be a dev to build a website.
He seems to think his app Shakespeare can make it easier to make a web app by using ai 😕
"Build me a Twitter like website" is the kind of instruction he thinks it will handle.
A local app running on your own machine, though calling the big ai model apis. Including if you have the power at home to run deep seek or open models.
I find myself suspecting it'd be hard for vibe coders who aren't devs to tell if they had vibe coded buggy insecure software or not.

Content warning:

I was reading up about a drug on the manufacturer's website for a paid project in my other life where I'm not an erotica writer and the text was, I kid you not, AI generated. What's funny is that while I was reading I was thinking to myself that pharmacy companies are so happy to sue each other, it would be daft to use AI generated text. Yet here we are. Sigh.

What instant communication, thread-based platform do you use at least once a month?
Just trying to get an idea of the popularity of different options - multiple choices possible, please boost around!
If you think we should add some choices, please cite them in comment and I'll do a 2nd poll. They would have to be similarly thread / themes / channel - based, with a phone app but also available in the browser (e.g. maybe Matrix? But website-only platforms like Discourse would not work…
