Amazing sentence:
"There is of course always the God of the uncriticizable self, who behaves with the same irritable intolerance as the monotheistic God in the face of even the faintest suggestion that one might consider behaving or thinking differently."

I fear that AI is the 12th circle of Dante's inferno: treachery against the soul itself.

Realizing that “artificial intelligence” is a vague, broad, shifting, and relative term for potentially •any• activity cuts through a lot of our instinctive bad reasoning about it — and thus cuts through a lot of hype. As Brown says, it doesn’t mean •anything• about a technology itself, only about how a technology is situated relative to the world.

Damn, using the UK's visa app to read a passport chip via NFC is a pretty extreme exercise in frustration. Got locked out twice (on the backend by UK servers, not the app itself!) in my attempts, each with an hour wait to be unlocked.
