For centuries, people believed ice was slippery because pressure and friction melted a thin film of water.
But new research from Saarland University reveals that this
long-standing explanation is wrong.
Instead, the slipperiness comes from the subtle interaction of molecular dipoles between ice and surfaces like shoes or skis.
These microscopic electrical forces disorder the crystal structure of ice,
creating a thin liquid layer even at temperatures near abs…
I woke up angry today.
ICE spokesperson Lindsay Williams is a liar, who is bad at lying.
“Asked if the ICE officers chased Lopez, Williams said: ‘Chased? I wouldn’t say that. They followed him until he crashed.’”
Wouldn’t say that? How about: ICE was committing crime (their standard procedure), someone died, they’re the killers. Your people killed a school teacher, Williams.
Have the day you deserve, you apologist scum.

With these people on our streets right now, the only thing that matters in the moment is what people believe: what they believe the law is, what they believe is safe, what they believe they can get away with, what they believe they are capable of doing.
The law is slow. The law catches up later. Belief is •now•.
To be clear, this is #ICE killing another person. They way they terrorize and disappear people, it is only natural to run from them.
"Ellis also pointed out that local law enforcement agencies in Chatham County have restrictive chase policies, and would not have been able to take the action ICE did."

Reading Yegge’s rant and the much shorter and more polished https://siddhantkhare.com/writing/ai-fatigue-is-real (“AI fatigue is real and nobody talks about it”), I keep coming back to this, which I published in 2020 and is sort of at the center of my thinking about everything:

ACLU hits ICE with what will be the first of multiple legal actions over ICE’s illegal and unacceptable behavior in Minnesota.
My hope is that this is the road to an injunction.
