Good Morning #Canada
Conservationists who focus on restoration of wetlands are increasingly "Leaving It To Beaver." Beavers are considered the ultimate Keystone Species because they area they re-engineer offer benefits to many other species, and an entire ecosystem can collapse if a Beaver is removed. A Beaver dam doesn't just hold and conserve water. Beavers increase the population of frogs, fish, insects, birds, and small mammals and extend the range of larger mammals like moose, deer, and bears. The quantity and variety of vegetation are increased. Water is filtered and saturates the land, refilling artesian wells. It's unbelievable that we almost lost this amazing creature because of a hat fashion trend.

Peacock trying to impress a Peahen. LA Arboretum, Arcadia, California, USA. June, 2025. #laarboretum #bird #birds

A peacock, facing the camera, is displaying for a peahen, who has her back turned on the peacock, and is walking away. She appears to be looking for insects in the grass. The peacock's body is a brilliant iridescent blue, while its tail feathers, which are spread to completely fill the camera field of view, are bright iridescent blue and green.

A small, green praying mantis is doing a wobbly walk on the edge of a window screen. My fingertip looks huge in comparison and causes the insect to hasten away, climbing further up the screen.

Terrible backlit photos of bird this morning feeding at insects at corner of the windows. Quite active and hard to see well, but still very sure it is a female american redstart from the very distinct yellow bands on the tail with a very dark tip. #birds #birdsofmastodon

A buffy coloured backlit bird flies with wings wide. Tail has a distinctive black tip.
Photo of back underside of same bird showing very yellow outer bands of yellow on the tail.
