Am fuming. This is current state of the new lawnmower belt that arrived in the post today. I raced to install at lunchtime and get the grass cut before the rain arrives later. Probably only another 10 mins of mowing, and it'd have been finished.
A replacement OEM belt (at 3x cost of this cheap, now-broken one) is ordered, and I'll be taking my time installing that when it arrives.

Kerb-side charging is fine for individuals - less so for communities. I’m not as excited about running uv locally, b/c it’s just not a significant factor in my day-to-day life.
BUT just installing tox-uv in structlog’s CI made it go from 2:19 to 1:47 which is not life-changing, but significant. It could get a lot faster if GitHub Actions added support for it (pre-installation & caching), which would be in their own interest but not holding my breath.

When I (try to) boot it, the computer (old dell laptop) says “Operation System Not Found”.
However, GRUB is installed: if I add in a #openSUSE USB and select “boot from hard disk” the installed grub opens and I can boot the system normally!! I need the pendrive only to select “boot from hard drive” - then it opens the installed grub and I can just remove the pendrive and boot.
It only isn’t opening Grub automatically apparently? Tho the BIOS doesn’t let me select a specific partition, only “hard drive”.

Relevant: Fedora installer wasn’t detecting any disks. So we installed openSUSE dual boot with windows (it worked, the only problem was grub didn’t detect windows). They wanted to try deleting the disk to see if fedora would detect it. Opening Gparted, apparently it was a RAID (even tho only 1 disk). Someone else deleted the disk (new partition table).
From then on, any distro we installed had the problem I mentioned.

Got this new old stock HP laptop to use with our older digital cameras (some software doesn’t work on newer Windows versions).
The out of the box experience is horrible. It’s now about 15 minutes into installing software.
On a Mac of that era you started in and within a few seconds it greeted you with a few questions and you could use the computer within a minute or so.

First try of DSL. very old Compaq and first try I thought it crashed. When I used verbose I could watch the process. Got a working desktop and connected to web. Terminal as su and modprobe PPA and it saw the zip drive. Update s/ware failed, but only alpha s/ware.
Not bad for alpha and will play more b4 installing.

Honestly, I find the decision in #Wine 9.0 to force #HidRaw by default for specific gamepads a very bad one. Apparently, it was done because these devices use "a proprietary HID protocol", and so they full functionality cannot be exposed via XInput. Well, okay. Except that there are two problems.
Firstly, using them via HidRaw requires special device permissions. In #Gentoo, this means installing games-util/game-device-udev-rules. If you don't do that, the controllers simply don't appear at all, and you don't know why. You have to look for answers. Even if you do, I have some doubts about giving extra permissions to stuff.
Secondly, it requires all software to support these gamepads explicitly. I mean, I've tried this with DualShock 4 in two games. In "Saints Row V", the gamepad work but the Y axis would be reversed for no apparent reason. In "A Plague Tale", the gamepad wouldn't be detected at all.
I prefer a gamepad that works over theoretical support for some fancy hidden features. So it's back to XInput for me:
