Question in my course today:
🤷 How do I know if I can publish a preprint? Do journals allow it? 🤷
A preprint is usually submitted to a preprint server at the same time or before submitting to a Journal. Almost all journals allow preprints. You can check the journal regulations: v2.sherpa.ac.uk/romeo/

Abstract

There would be little adaptive value in a complex communication system like human language if there were no ways to detect and correct problems. A systematic comparison of conversation in a broad sample of the world’s languages reveals a universal system for the real-time resolution of frequent breakdowns in communication. In a sample of 12 languages of 8 language families of varied typological profiles we find a system of ‘other-initiated repair’, where the recipient of an unclear me…

Ten simple rules for a mom-friendly Academia
I haven’t looked at the details but I would also add: update the parental leave laws so that they equally apply to both parents and somehow update our mentality as a society so that women are not almost always the ones taking care of the children.

1. Support women during pregnancy
2. Promote paid parental leaves and respect their use
3. Promote daycare and breasteeding facilities
4. Organize common lab activities during school times
5. Give flexibility in working schedules
6. Adapt teaching for parents with little kids
7. Support moms' academic careers
8. Take care of mental health
9. Disseminate and enforce protocols against discrimination and harassment
10. Do not overload women
