Frogs should be allowed to design things again

I am hard on my keyboards and they tend to wear out quickly. Current wireless on this machine is slowly wearing out.
1. Mechanical is a must. There is a feel that other keyboards just don't have and I am a touch typist so the sound/feel is critical. I really don't want a 'silent' keyboard.
2. Checking the history. If no real history (for me that is anything with under 500 reviews) I tend to ignore. I also read the reviews as sometimes they are 'paid'…

I really wish Apple sold a standalone TouchID button. I know there's that crazy hack where you can rip apart a keyboard and just use the TouchID button, but that's nuts. Just give us the button so we can use TouchID with our own mechanical keyboards!

Keyboards used to have all sorts of keys specific to the platform, but (default) PC and Mac keyboards have barely changed since the Reagan administration; I wonder why that is.
Why for example are there no keys to step backwards and forwards through open apps, or dedicated copy/paste keys, or dedicated undo/redo?
Or now that so many things are text/chat-based, why is there no dedicated key to do a new line without invoking a full submit. Or an emoji key, or a “lookup” key?
(PC keyboards got the Windows key in the 90s, and more recently Microsoft has been trying to make the “Copilot key” a thing with varying success.)

Actually any self-hostable journal apps recommendation are welcome
Only found jtx for caldav and it was disappointing. And searching for self hostable journals in general I only found "journiv" which is vibe coded (and not open source) so I'm not really willing to use it.
I guess I'd want easy formatting (I do like markdown, but here I'd prefer UI-based), a calendar view for the entries, image support. Audio with transcription would be nice too, even if I could use the keyboards dictation mode for that. Could be a good web app with or without mobile apps option, as long as the web worked well on mobile.

Anyone else remember when drum machines appeared? Or midi keyboards with 92 different instruments you never needed to learn how to play? Or the electric pianos that played the sound of someone else's actual piano?
Using mechanized skills we don't have or can't afford isn't the problem. The LLM problem is the total societal cost, the damage, and who ultimately profits. MIDI may have taken jobs and aggravated a few ulcers, but it never killed anyone.

It's the generation before they switched to Apple Silicon. It feels not 3 years but 15 years older than that.
Oh, and it had the horribad "butterfly" keyboard (and the TouchBar) they tried to gaslight us into believing it was any good for years before they gave up and make proper keyboards again.

I don't understand the MNT Pocket Reform product.
It's a tiny but heavy (weighs just under what a MacBook Neo weighs) laptop with only 4 hour battery life and in a usable configuration it's $2,000? And has 10 months lead time?
(The standalone keyboard product is kind of cool though; always had a thing for tiny keyboards since back in the Newton days.)

I've just learned that #8bitdo have released an #IBM #ModelM edition of their fabulous range of retro keyboards and I am definitely here for it!
