The thermal backreaction of a scalar field in de Sitter spacetime
We argue that a scalar field in de Sitter spacetime should feel explicit thermal effects associated with its curvature. Starting from the Bunch-Davies vacuum and a scalar field with small mass compared to the de Sitter curvature, we use the thermo-field dynamics formalism in order to expose these thermal effects. We compute the thermal Wightman function connecting two spacetime points and from it, via the point-splitting regularization technique, the renormalized thermal energy-momentum tensor.…

The system of driven dense colloid mixtures is studied in one-, two- and three-dimensional geometries. We calculate the diffusion coefficients and mobilities for each particle type, including cross-terms, in a hydrodynamic limit, using a mean-field-type approximation. Explicit lower bounds for opaque sets of unit square and unit disc
Explicit lower bounds for the length of the shortest opaque set for the unit disc and the unit square in the Euclidean plane are derived. The results are based on an explicit application of the general method of Kawamura, Moriyama, Otachi and Pach. While the bound for the unit square only slightly improves the existing bound, the bound for the unit disc is new and based on the idea that the free parameters in the general method can be optimized due to the strong symmetry properties of the disc.…
