Interesting article from #cybersecurity researchers at ITRes on yet another flavor of “EDR silencer” tactics, this time using a maliciously activated VPN connection that “sinks” or blocks traffic to EDR telemetry endpoints. Helpfully, they include detection and prevention techniques too, including likely the best idea, restricting by technical policy who can create VPN profiles.

I just finished¹ building a QRP Labs QMX this weekend, and after a few tests, tonight I got on the air with it and made my first QSO with it. All the way to the Kansas City, MO area, with AK0A Ken. Using a radio about the size of a deck of playing cards. The radio is smaller than the USB power bank I was using for power. 🤯
¹It triggers SWR protection transmitting into a dummy load, so I guess "finished" is modulo taking it apart and rewinding the transformer that senses SWR. But also I…

Say what you will about consumerism, but at least ripping people off is a form of having an actual relationship between human beings. An awful, sick relationship, but a relationship! Sales and marketing require that, at some level, you still view customers as people with thoughts and needs and desires and inner lives.
Now increasingly we run into things like the OP where even ripping people off is more acknowledgement of humanity than a company is willing to give.

I just made a cool shortcut in Apple’s shortcut app on iPad!
When tapped on the Home Screen on an iPad or iPhone or an Apple Watch, it will message two people immediately.
Then it gives a choice of calling an ambulance (911) or not.
There is an “are you sure” before actually calling 911.
If no ambulance is required it sends a message just telling the people help is needed.
If it does call the ambulance it texts the people that too.
…. I have been playing with Apple scripting since old MacOS days. love that it lives on and just gets more powerful with all the apps that we can tap into now.
So easy! And doing things that can truly improve, even save, lives. This is what computers should do.

this week on substack I'm sharing some thoughts about how accepting contradiction or paradox in our lives can allow us to grow our impact.
