Mac minis will soon be even harder to get: eGPU support now available for Apple Silicon. Seriously - this is the way to go: a Mac mini with 32 GB of RAM and an eGPU (or 4) is a perfect little setup without having to build a chonky boi PC.

So apparently Apple is now selling the Mac Mini under scalpers rules; had a client suprise me with 4 new hires, & I couldn’t buy 4 Mac Minis; I had to buy 1 Mac Mini at a time over 4 days. 😂
(Have machines on order via the Apple Business store to restock inventory, but they’re still 2 weeks out)

It was easier to buy toilet paper during the height of COVID than to buy a Mac now. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Is anybody using, or considering using, ngscopeclient on an ARM64 platform?
Would Debian aarch64 be a platform worth adding to CI and officially supporting? I think I can probably run it as a VM on the mac mini.
But I'm not sure what's out there that actually has the GPU horsepower to perform well. Like, I think somebody tried to build it on a raspberry pi and it *worked* but I'm not sure how useful it would be on something so limited.

I tell ya what, it suddenly makes it sound a lot less urgent to replace my M1 Mac mini with an M5 one when you see the tests run in 0.000 seconds.
I mean, what could you possibly need more processor for? Maybe you just need *less* software.

Progress! Sorted out a bunch of permissions issues and I'm now able to (over SSH) clone a template VM on the mac mini and launch it.
Now to set up a script to actually run the test suite.
I've written more bash than any other language the last week or so and I don't like it lol. But it had to be done...

@… Frankly the only reason I’m considering replacing my M1 Mac Mini with a MBP is the form factor and the FOMO.
I’ve not once run into “ugh, I wish this computer was faster” since ordering it on launch (I *did* get 16 GB of memory FWIW).

Great, I need a desktop computer and apparently it’s the worst time in years to buy a computer because AI hype.
Apple’s desktop stuff is basically unavailable (1-3 months lead time).
Anyway, does anyone in the US have maybe a M4 Mac mini lying around that I could buy so I can bridge the time to when Apple fixes their supply chain issue? DM me!
(Also, no, I won’t switch to Linux so no need to reply with that.)

Wow, I was speccing out a Mac Mini for a client and if I wanted to get more than 24GB RAM, it’s 10-12 WEEKS estimated delivery.
I played with it and there were configurations that wouldn’t ship until AUGUST.
🤯🤷🏻‍♀️
