It is 2026 and I am posting this toot from my 2014 Mac mini running Monterey and LibreWolf. 4 gigs of RAM is a little paltry but it works.

I'm not into audiophile stuff btw, just decent quality things really.
For example, I have a pair Bose 901 speakers that are ~50 years old and they sound fantastic.
But it's not even that, if properly engineered even stuff which hasn't the primary purpose of sound reproduction can sound good.
My 15-year old Apple Thunderbolt Display, the 8-year old iPad Pro and the 5-year old Mac Book Pro all sound great.
But—
The speakers in my 2025 LG TV? They shouldn't have bothered installing them but instead put them right into a landfill.
Speakers in my Asus gaming monitor? Like someone dragging a nail on a chalkboard.
And, weirdly, the Apple HomePod mini is pretty bad at reproducing music. A 10-year old Bose SoundLink mini beats the pants of it. 🤷

Help needed: my user home uses 12GB of space. Still #macOS Tahoe reports that my Mac Mini 256GB is out of space.
Obviously #macOS Tahoe shits its pants and doesn't work when low on space.
Space Gremlin Pro reports 200GB Restricted Files. No idea what that' is but that's pretty close to the vanished space.

Some day, I want to dump $10k into my home server infrastructure ... and not just because it's estimated to take 22hr to copy files from the mac mini to the windows server.

Thinking of reinstalling my computer from scratch to iron out all its kinks and tardiness from years of software experiments and trials. Just need to make sure all files are backed up... as I don't want to reinstall the computer from a backup – which would defeat the purpose.

My other task is I want to turn my old Mac mini into a home server. But that needs many hours of focus... haven't done something like that before.

I got a 9" LCD panel and HDMI board from AliExpress to put in the Mac SE/30 case. The other screen I have is a 1/4" too wide so I can't close the case up. It just arrived and I unboxed it. First, it smells. Second, it has a mini HDMI plug, and I don't have an adapter. Second problem easily fixed, part will be here tomorrow. But why does it smell like chemicals? Hopefully it airs out over the next few hours or something.

I wonder if it is just an effect of old hardware, but boy, the new @… OS release is a crashfest on my 2011 Mac Mini. The App Center crashed on me at least 7 times before I had enough and downloaded Zorin (because I’ve also wanted to give that a spin). It looked very nice, though, and it’s nice that Flatpaks show up now by default.
