This is the third full build iteration of my miniature #QRP unun supporting both EFHW and "random wire" antennas. At this point, it is still fiddly to build, but I'd expect an experienced #HamRadio DIY / homebrew enthusiast to find the build not terribly difficult.
There's nothing…

Photograph of tiny QRP unun showing size of overall assembly including integrated coax. BNC connector for scale! The corners of the box have M3 countersink screws. There are three knobs on the side; a purple knob for the counterpoise connection, and red (high voltage!) knobs for "random wire" and end-fed half wave connections,
Inside view of unun autotransformer showing construction details, next to a ruler for scale, showing that the entire box is less that 3.5 cm across. There is a half-inch ferrite in the box, wrapped in kapton tape, with a 14-turn autotransformer wrapped around it. There are three M3x8 brass screws through the edges, connected to the transformer with ring terminals. The screws are held in place by captive nuts. An RG316 coax segment comes in through the side of the box to feed the autotransformer…
Side view of assembled unun, without a terminal knob, showing how thin it is. The letter "R" is visible on the side of the box, indicating that the adjacent terminal is intended for a "random wire" antenna.
A photo showing a comparison of this version of the unun design to the previous iteration, configured for deployment. The previous iteration was built on a SO-239 bulkhead connector, with a PL-259-to-BNC connector attached.

Today's #HamRadio #POTA CW activation of US-3847 Occoneechee Mountain Natural State Conservation Area (four hunting park-to-park QSOs, six running calling CQ) along with tonight's SST together made a milestone for me: Now 75% of all my logged QSOs are Morse code.
I still marvel t…

Map of POTA activations; 7 5W QRP and 3 15W; all CW
Analytics of all my logged QSOs:
FM: 2%
DIGI: 2%
SSB: 20%
CW: 75%

Sorry that doesn't add up to 100%; rounding strikes again.

This awesome t-shirt caused me to rewatch the #DaftPunk anime saga. I thought there were only 4 music videos but there are in fact many more (not for any hit singles though). Another tiny easter egg is the short drummer's back story: He's supposed to be from my home town Munich! So of course he likes beer :)

Still frame from Daft Punk's music video for Crescendolls. It shows the face of a man in the style of Japanese anime. He has rather long brown hair and purple round glasses. Information about him is shown: his name is Baryl (drums), age 20, born in Munich. Loves: boxing, beer and horror movies. Hates: ice skating.

Sadly, my band project „Nine Inch Screws“ didn’t really take off…

Photo of a long rusty screw I found on the ground. It’s maybe just 15cm long. But it has nice golden hour light falling on the habd that‘s holding it.

Text of Reddit post reads:

I just climbed a 1000kw TV tower and am now feeling sick

I was on my way home from a family thing and saw this big tower next to the road so I pulled off and parked. At this point I was at the bottom of the structure and was like 'this thing is big' so I started climbing it. I'd say I made it about 3/4ths of the way up maybe. The entire time I'm thinking 'when am I going to get to the top?' and I keep looking up and it's still way far away.

When I was at the highes…

This is an interesting article about how videos for Will Smith's social media look like AI slop but there's a catch: the fans aren't fake. The origin of those short clips with the deformed faces are real, professional concert photos of an event that happened. They just asked some AI model like Veo3 to turn that still image into moving footage.
This is super creepy and will probably end up being used in all kinds of historical documentaries pretty soon.

I stayed at a hotel and had this idea for a game where you need to steal food from a buffet while the waitresses and waiters are roaming around. Top-down view, with the staff's angle of view made visible. It would be a project where I could look at #GodotEngine, maybe try some pixel art or Blender.
It's already clear that I won't ever find the time to tackle this. But it'…
