Here Turner is imagining an event from Welsh history. Kneeling in the foreground is 'hopeless Owen', imprisoned in 1255 at Dolbadern Castle for joining a rebellion against his brother. Turner sets Dolbadern's tower against the most luminous area of sky, a trick borrowed from Dutch masters.

Schrift muss noch dekoriert werden, aber ich mag, wie sich das mit dem Licht allmählich in die Richtung bewegt, die ich haben will.

Ausschnitt aus einem Coverdesign, das noch unfertig ist. Was schon zu erkennen ist, ist der untere Teil eines ummauerten Fensters, durch das oranges Licht durchscheint und den Bereich darunter braun-violett gestaltet. In verschnörkelter Goldschrift steht darunter "Das Lustmädchen der Königin".

I love this painting, because you can almost smell the soil. The wire on the fence, and the nettles in front, give a striking composition against the view behind the garden. Then you realise when it was painted.
