"The Electoral Commission has called for new legal controls over misinformation from AI chatbots, after a thinktank found they had made serious mistakes during the recent Scottish election.
The thinktank Demos said its investigation had found that AI services gave voters misinformation to 34% of the questions it posed"

Listening to the Revolutions podcast and there are so many things that happened based on some mistake or misinterpretation then cascade faster than anyone expects. Honestly, after all the evil shit the oligarchs are doing, I really think it'll end up being some obscure parody or just misinformation that kicks off the insurrection in the US.

and the ballots had been counted, recounted, and recounted again.
The lie that the 2020 election was stolen has persisted.
And the “Stop the Steal” movement’s most ardent believers now hold unprecedented positions of power,
including on the once-sleepy State Election Board in the important swing state of Georgia.

Electoral Commission says ministers should introduce clearer duties on AI platforms to protect voters against misinformation and ensure algorithms did not mislead voters, particularly during critical election periods. The problem is that AI platforms *can't do that*. LLMs can answer "what's the received wisdom about this programming topic?" because they've scraped all of Stack Overflow, but they don't *know* anything, especially not about news.
