On Tuesday, February 24, from 12 to 1 pm ET, Evidence for Democracy is hosting a public webinar to unpack the findings of our new report, The Misinformation Challenge: Rebuilding Trust in a Post-Truth World.

AI tools used in a medical context are easily fooled by misinformation that's delivered in an authoritative tone.
That’s the finding of a recent study published in The Lancet Digital Health which assessed the outputs of 20 LLMs used in a medical context, including models specially trained on medical data.

Declining vaccination rates, misinformation, and the Trump administration’s budget cuts and lagging response to outbreaks have fueled a resurgence of the disease.

A video of the fracas shows two uniformed officers pacing a walkway in the park Monday as snowballs fly at them from all directions, hitting the officers and covering them in snow.

On 28 January 2025, Commissioner Marie-Josee Hogue held a press conference on the Foreign Interference Commission’s final report, where she identified misinformation as the single greatest existential threat to Canadian democracy. Our research team at Evidence for Democracy carried out a broad review of the state of misinformation in Canada, and what we can do to rebuild public trust in Canada’s democracy.

Imagine there were no smartphones with cameras and social media, then ICE/DHS would completely get away with all their lies and misinformation. How much of it is actually helpful content, and how much is generated junk to meet A.I. goals so folks can get promotions and bonuses?

The David Suzuki Foundation has been informed of several fake news stories, ads and videos circulating online that falsely claim to be endorsed by David Suzuki or the David Suzuki Foundation.
With the rise in AI-generated misinformation, it is increasingly difficult to determine if the content you see online is real or not.
These fake ads often link to websites selling products, sharing disinformation or promoting financial scams.

How did we exchange information before photography,

How was truth represented in a world of stories, myths and oral traditions?
For most of human history,
truth wasn’t a fixed point;
it was negotiated within a tribe,
verified by proximity,
and sustained by trust.
In that sense,
we may be returning to an ancient condition:
truth as local, not universal.

I just took Leadnow's survey to share my thoughts on CBC cuts.
Misinformation is rising & local news coverage is disappearing, the federal government is proposing to cut the CBC’s budget by $192m next year. Funding decisions for the CBC will be made in the coming months so there’s still a chance to fight back against these funding cuts. Leadnow’s power comes from our community. We want to hear from you to help decide what to do. Take the quick 4-question survey now.

The BBC running damage control on its own broadcast is wild to witness. The most egregious part of the affair to me is that no one from BAFTA or the BBC even bothered to apologize to Michael B Jordan and Delroy Lindo when they got off the stage, let alone tell *them* what was going to be done about it. There was no effort to bring the three people involved together for resolution at the time of the incident, nothing.
But the other part of this that just grates on me with every article is the BBC trying to defend itself by saying “that another racial slur had been edited out of the broadcast.”
