My favourite thing about the monarchy is that it's transparently BS. Like, no one actually believes that the King of England has some sort of divine right to rule over Canada. The trouble with republican forms of government is that the will of the people, often imagined in terms of the political calculus of the US's electoral college or first-past-the-post or whatever, is far less transparently BS, though perhaps equally so. As an interesting aside here, this would mean that Hawaii would technically return to a monarchy since the kingdom has been illegally occupied since 1893 and the promise of returning sovereignty has never been fulfilled.
