@mgorny@social.treehouse.systemsWhile helping my mum with something recently, I've noticed that her #GMail started featuring a banner that she ran out of space, and mails will stop arriving in less than a month. As expected, she never even noticed it. On the other hand, I had two thoughts about it.
Firstly, of course, #Google are shameless assholes (Microsoft's even worse, as I boosted at some point before). Mom's new phone came with Google Photos preinstalled in place of vendor's gallery, and of course it automatically started making backups of her photos and movies in the "cloud", or as I'd like to call it, to pedophiles. The photos finally filled up the free space, and Google started doing everything to convince her to buy more space. I honestly doubt she'd be able to figure out that she needed to turn these backups off and wipe them; if anything, I suspect she'd just start hopelessly removing photos from the phone, which might not have helped at all.
Secondly, it's that if such a thing happened to me, I probably wouldn't even know, because I'm reading my mail via a mail client. So I wouldn't ever have seen their banner. Well, unless they also send a mail about it, and my mom missed it among all the spam.

That trip, a mixture of motorway and B-roads really cemented it for me: that little blue thing is the best car I've ever owned (possibly ever driven?) If you have the chance, I heartily recommend obtaining one..
It's now also utterly filthy, but wearing the road-muck very well.

I've bought very little for myself in the last couple of years so I really needed black cowboy boots (black winter boots), nude flats (springtime shoes) and black heels (for funeral outfit). There's a wee smidge of a bequest coming which has loosened my purse strings. Also they were all in the sale 👍

And when we to log in and password reset, the large-font size she has set so she can actually read anything has screwed up every page there.
Half the buttons are hidden. The page can't be pinched to zoom out.
It's trying to trick us into an 18 month contract instead of just more data. She has no idea how much 100Gb is.
The actual accept-and-pay-button is unclickable because its mostly off the screen because the increased actually-readable-for-her font size. We can't really be sure if it's a confirm-what-you-asked-for button or this agree-to-upselling proposal on the top of the screen.
We give up and do it on my phone which I'm old enough to have to squint to see but don't up the font size usually yet.

The funeral director had fabulous black boots on (which I pointed out to her in case she hadn't noticed 😄). She said they were from Next, I said they'd prob be too narrow for me, and the other woman there sympathised and said her feet were so wide she was better off with the box! I'm not sure this was the chat my father expected from the funeral direct…

In fact on a Sunday lunchtime it wasn't at all unusual to see kids sitting outside pubs with a lemonade and a packet of crisps while dad (nearly always dad, not mum) was inside having a couple of pints.
I think in the last 20 years as pubs have become more places to eat and socialise, rather than places to get drunk and smoke, that's changed significantly, and it's not in the slightest bit unusual to see families with children in pubs.
But I'm still a bit surprised that so many people are upset that one specific pub in London has decided to ban kids.
