One thing that came to mind, reading about the BBC putting up a paywall, is how much a lot of US perception of the UK, and especially London, is shaped by the most extreme right wing bloviators.
When a left-wing muslim became the presumptive candidate for NY mayor, many people were losing their minds.
Pointing out that London has had a left-wing muslim mayor for almost a decade is met with a conception of London that is a mix of sharia law and knife murders.

my parents went to get us pizza for dinner, and on the way back the car ahead of them broke down. they pulled over and hopped out to check on it, and discovered the driver was an absolutely ancient looking iranian immigrant and his son. he immediately started going off about how he was bahšʼí and not muslim and how the muslims in iran were crazy evil oppressors, almost like he thought that was a foolproof spell to ward off ice agents and other hostile whites

FWIW, it's pretty clear that the abuse of immigrants in the US and the abuse of Palestinians in Gaza/West Bank are copied elsewhere. I grew up (60's/70's) believing that these acts were wrong, and that the world had sort of learned it's lessons from WW2 horrors. It's distressing to realize how much I was taught in school was just plain wrong.

Harvard Divinity School broke precedent

“There are no safe zones left in Gaza after 600 days and 77 years of genocide,” said Zehra Imam,
who graduated from the Harvard Divinity School this spring and participated in the embattled Religion and Public Life program.

Finished Hollow Fires by Samira Ahmed last night. It's gripping, sad, and fierce all at the same time. Explores themes of racism, Islamophobia, white supremacist terrorism, and police malcompetence in an extremely timely manner. It's a good book, which I'm extra happy about since I also liked Ahmed's This Book Won't Burn, so now I have another author whose work I'll be reading through.
Including Sabaa Tahir, Sabina Khan, and Adiba Jaigirdar, I've been reading a ton of great YA books by south Asian muslim authors recently, all discovered via the "grab something off the YA shelf by a probably-not-white author" method that has yet to fail me. Turns out the racism in publishing that puts a higher bar in front of authors of color at least makes it easy to find good books in one way >:(

The israeli-american genocide of the Palestinian people continues. It’s not just israel. It was never just israel.
“‘This is an administration that is committed to Palestinian erasure, both physical and political,’ Elgindy said. ‘The signs were there even in the first Trump term, which nominally supported a Palestinian ‘state’ that was shorn of all sovereignty and under permanent Israeli control. At least now they’ve abandoned the pretense.’

If the US starts participating in striking Iran the danger for further escalation is great. Because why would Iran in that case not attack oil fields, US bases in the Gulf states? Close the strait of Hormuz? It could then also try to unite everything that is extreme/radical in the muslim world against the US. What is missing is a scenario for de-escalation, also because Netanyahu is not interested in that is my impression.

He kinda forgot the lost his presidential bid and is, now, pretending that he is the font of US foreign policy.

I'm pretty sure all the white folks (and anyone else who didn't learn the underlying lessons first hand) were assigned to learn about Red Summer, the Chinese Exclusion Acts, Wilmington 1898, and more than a few other things that came up in cultural conversation during the last Trump presidency. This is all on the test, and you're taking it now.
But in case anyone missed the assignment, I'll give you the TL;DR: ethnic cleansing has been central to American politics basically forever, which shouldn't be surprising given it's a nation founded on genocide and the belief in the right to commit it without constraint.
If you haven't done the math yet, I'll help you out. The "Haitian Immigrants" lets them grab black folks, they've been grabbing folks from Mexico south and lumping in indigenous Americans (just so they don't skip out on the oldest American genocide), and the Muslim ban/Hamas rhetoric lets them grab anyone who else they see fit.
The lack of due process lets them grab anyone and they don't have to prove anything. They're talking about deporting "one million" and possibly"millions" of people. So how do they get those numbers?
There are already reports that they're just grabbing random brown folks, trying to take 3k people per day. They fly to blue cities and grab as many black and brown people as they can, then send them to death camps in foreign countries and pretend they have no way to get them back. That's it. That's the game.
This isn't new. The big difference now is that the cops aren't hiding their uniforms under white hoods this time. Do you get it yet?

Australian Green Party crushed in election after running hard on anti-Israel platform & attacking Labor govt as "complicit in genocide." 1st-choice vote (AU has ranked-vote system) drops from 12.25% to 11.75%, despite gains from Muslim voters. In races where final choice is Green vs Labor, more conservative voters overcome their past distaste for union-dominated Labor & transfers run massively against Greens.
Result: Greens lose at least 2 and maybe all 4 of their seat…
