Mutual aid is everyday resistance | Cognoscenti #mutualaid

reclaim conservative phrases and ideas to make them meaningless with the same fervor republicans work to destroy liberal phrases.
be pro-life which I assume means right for food, shelter, and bodily autonomy.
be pro masculinity which I assume means community building and mutual aid.
be MAGA which probably means fighting for immigrants and advancing civil rights.
I'm sure there are problems with this idea but I bet there are good parts we don't get to enjoy.

Communities have changed how resistance is conducted
— away from the myth of the solitary activist hero
and toward
shared capacity.
As Grace Lee Boggs taught us,
“Movements are born of critical connections rather than critical mass.”
Political exhaustion took on new meaning.
It was no longer treated as a personal struggle, but as shared terrain
— produced by oppressive systems and requiring collective response.
The question shifted from…

It's probably worth bumping blackoutthesystem.com/ again. There are some interesting resources on that site. I was impressed with their mutual aid section.

People were jumping into action here in Minneapolis — droves of people, comfortable people, white people — not in mid-January, but in •early December•. (And the groundwork started much earlier!)
Community meetings overflowing. Signal groups exploding. Observer trainings filling day after day after day. Mutual aid networks popping up like mushrooms. On and on.
Why? Because we saw brown and Black neighbors being dragged from their cars, dragged from their homes, stalked, terrorized, •kidnapped• with barely the slimmest shadow of due process or legal oversight.

SBResiste needs your help.
As the Trump administration launched its aggressive, often unconstitutional assault on immigrants early last year, community members formed SBResiste.
The organization aims to prevent kidnappings,
monitor ICE activities,
document violations,
notify community members of their rights,
and provide mutual aid to families devastated by detentions and disappearances.

The Bonfire team have met their first “maintenance” fundraising goal. The next stretch goal is designing and shipping federated groups.
There is lots of good writing in this post about the needs of different types of groups.

This is a direct mutual aid program organized by parents; there’s no nonprofit or governmental intermediary.
I realize that involves a lot of trust, and again, I’m personally vouching for this fundraiser (for whatever that’s worth, I’m just a foot with an eyeball on top on the internet). The advantage of this kind of mutual aid process is that it will get money to families who need it •fast•.

When the working class organizes on the basis of solidarity and direct action, workers and communities can collectively manage and control the means of production, while federations of workers and local communities coordinate production and social life through mutual aid and federalist principles, without bosses or the state.
In an era marked by automation, precarity, and deepening inequality, the struggle for workers’ self-management, economic democracy, and social liberation remains …

It’s possible that this is nothing at all, and they’ll be back in full force today. Nobody, and I mean nobody, has suggested that maybe the worst is over.
But we took the days of relative rest anyway. Hmm, “rest” is wrong: mutual aid, food distribution, school observers, people doing laundry for those who can’t go to a laundromat — that continues unabated. But there’s a definite feeling of catching our breath for a moment.
