Nieuw onderzoek laat zien dat daar weinig van klopt: we importeren drie keer meer calorieën en ruim drieënhalf keer meer eiwitten dan we exporteren – allemaal om de veestapel in stand te houden.

Klimaat enorm aan het drammen met talloze overstromingen en hitterecords
Steeds meer mensen ergeren zich aan het gedram van het klimaat. Met hittegolven in Europa, bosbranden in Canada, Zwitserland en de Canarische Eilanden, en aardverschuivingen in Colombia voelt het voor veel mensen alsof het klimaat echt over de schreef gaat.

Het positieve nieuws is dat Trump met z'n oorlog tegen Iran de enorme investeringsgolf in cleantech versterkt heeft. Landen in Azië en Afrika voeren hun investeringen in cleantech op.
Europese bedrijven verliezen hiermee in rap tempo terrein op exportmarkten. Een importheffing of versoepeling van milieuregels gaat niet helpen.

West Nile virus is showing up much earlier than usual this year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Experts worry that this could indicate an active and severe mosquito season ahead.
It’s the earliest start to the season in more than 20 years. 
As of June 30, the CDC has reported 48 human cases. 
That may not sound like a lot, but back in 2004, the season also started this early and ended with more than 2,500 cases and 100 deaths.

Die hoge dieselprijs (en dus verhoging van kosten van veel producten) zal nog wel even aanhouden en kan dus mogelijk nog wel verder stijgen als de export van diesel beperkt wordt in de VS. (Waarna andere landen kunnen volgen)
