In Little Tokyo, a five-block neighborhood east of downtown Los Angeles that is among the country’s largest Japanese American enclaves,
news often gets delivered and shared at the century-old koban.
It’s a community security office similar to those in Japan,
housed in a former police substation and named after a local hero from World War II.

Brian Kito stood on the sidewalk outside the koban Wednesday,
surveying the street that’s become a hot spot of activity a…

In the wake of the official MN Capitol rally being cancelled, lots of neighborhood protests springing up in its place. Judging by local reaction, that MAGA serial killer is going to cause •more• protest, not less. This makes me feel better about the decision to cancel the big one (which, per the previous post, I am truly torn about).

Everybody should remember that even as Iran is probably militarily incapable for the coming few years, it is really about instability in the broader region. For example in neighbouring Iraq. Where extremists are active, terrorism can develop etcetera.

After some neighbors say they want to be able to drive cars in cycletrack, DC govt replaces it with painted lanes & says basis for action was aesthetics of flexposts.
If the problem is really that flexposts don't look nice, why not replace them with decorative bollards?

Indian Creek Village,
the “Billionaire Bunker” near Miami,
couldn’t get approval to discharge its waste into a neighboring town’s sewer lines.
So the village quietly persuaded state lawmakers to force the issue.
In a world where billionaires are increasingly exercising political clout,
the fight over sewage in Indian Creek suggests the degree to which their influence is extending not just to policy in the White House and Congress but to some of the most foundat…

“While the media talk as if Israel has somehow just attacked the Iranian state, it’s not true. Most neighbourhoods in Tehran were attacked.”

#garten #gartenarbeit
