STM32H750 Trion bringup update: now have the MCU starting up, configuring LDO (no SMPS in this package) for VOS0 scaling level, initializing the PLLs for 450 MHz (nice convenient multiple of 25 MHz, I might consider 475 but that divides some stuff less well so we'll see... Fmax is 480), bringing up the UART, and logging some messages to stdout.

Nice “interaction” video / “why protected bike lanes”
I managed to collect a video recently that might help explain "why protected bike lanes?" TLDR: a thing that bike lanes help with, is simplifying safety even when they cannot completely eliminate risk. This is one of the reasons they're less stressful. One problem with a lot of bicycle safety discussions is that people tend to focus on Just One Cause for each crash, when I am pretty sure (from observing, thinking,…

Can we go back to the old days where instead of trying to slide into your DMs, and be your best frend, software was a recalcitrant old hag in a back alley who spat out an obscure error code that at least when you looked it up in a knowledge base told you exactly what you had done wrong and what, if anything, you could do about it? Had a great time at Good Vibrations Society this weekend.
First act I saw was the most entrancing. Rozsa stroking a harp and singing angelically with a backing track. She was great.
The North London Gospel Choir doing Graceland was pretty cool. They got some mad energy, all those gospel synced dance moves. Lovely to hear that album in a new way.
Enjoyed the Gentlemen Dub Club and Riot Jazz and So Solid Crew. Watched a nice sunset at camp.
Lovely small site, great crowd. Hung with some friends and met old ones I hadn't seen for years.
Also tripped over a guy rope in the dark on the first night and hurt my wrist pretty bad.
Walked away after a moment on the floor assessing damage but visited the medical tent. My wrist swelled up so much the next day I had to have my wristband replaced. Drive home somewhat more perilous as a result. Thank goodness for automatic gear boxes.

👋 Hello! I’m Łukasz. Thirty-something, living in Warsaw, Poland. On fedi since 2021 or so. Right now, I'm merging my two accounts into one and giving this profile a fresh new start.
I live a few parallel lives.
Most of the time I’m a web developer. I work with TypeScript, React and all that jazz. But I still enjoy static site generators and good ol’ HTML/CSS.
In another life, I’m a documentary photographer and photojournalist. I’m interested in activism, art and culture, politics, and pretty much anything interesting happening on city streets. A big part of my photography journey involves documenting protests and demonstrations in Poland, especially those related to human rights and social issues. I’m also drawn to street art, particularly when it carries strong messages.
I occasionally blog and translate. Many years ago I wrote two books about WordPress. However, these days I’m more likely to go outside and touch grass than spend even more time in front of a screen.
Outside of that, expect me to post about mental health and politics. I promise to use CWs when appropriate.
I post in both English and Polish, depending on the topic.
Aaaand that’s it. Nice to meet you! ☺️

Oh, Hacker News…FFS. Something got lost in the sad game of Popular Press Telephone between the actual study and this snotty post.
The actual study is here:
acpjournals.org/doi/10.7326/AN
It notes that:
1. Most research on air cleaning devices used air samples, not human health outcomes. (It’s far more difficult to conduct a study on the latter.)
2. Not many people are studying whether e.g. UV air purifiers create toxic byproducts.
3. The available studies sure do measure a whole bunch of different things, and wouldn’t it be nice if they had more consistent standards.
Their main recommendation is basically “scientists should do more studies where they measure infection in humans, not just germs in the air.” And that’s fair: It’s reasonable to •guess• that fewer germs in the air means less sickness, but it’s nice to actually •test• that!
However, AFAICT, nothing in the study warrants the “tinfoil hats” remark. Unlike a tinfoil hats, we have plenty good reason to think at least some of these devices actually work; the paper just wants the research to go deeper. It’s one giant “further study needed.” mastodon.social/@ngate/1150917

A friend from way back just got in touch. We used to work on comic books together back in the day. It was nice hearing from him. That's his blog. Great to hear he's still writing. "Hyperboreans is published by Beul Aithris and is about an astral pub crawl through Cork city in the 90s. " I had to buy this one. Pure Cork like 😁 #writingcommunity

1/2 Got some new reading material about digital sovereignty.
It's a really nice topic / hobby to spend time with: doing IT stuff for my own, playing around with RaspberryPIs and VPCs - and maybe(!) increasing some data protection.
Someone once told me that it's absurd as I'm posting online so much. But posting online is something I do explicitly. I control what I put online.
In case of services that I use form any company, I give away control (as I hardly ever rea…

But nice lawns and golf courses and unblemished flower gardens are so important. We can't possibly give up routine use of #pesticides.

Finally got the laptop where I wanted it. Proper "nightlight", touchpad gestures, notifications that look correct for the theme, proper `fish` theme...Sway is just so nice to use.

Our property tax bill arrives with a detailed list of each and every component of the total due.
Would it be nice if for our Federal taxes that we could get a detailed list that precisely shows how much each part goes, in reality, to each of the various appropriations made by Congress.
That would certainly show us how much of the FFOTUS spending consists of money stolen by FFOTUS and spent in defiance of Congressional appropriations.

Last night I had to grab code from an old script and I was reminded at how nice that code was. This is pretty rare for me. I almost never look at my code and go "Wow! Awesome!" but looking at what the code did I was quite pleased with it. Using just a single rotary encoder and 7 segment display I added a good amount of configurability to a device. I hope to have move of those moments in the future.

Amazing how many miserable fucks are on here (Mastodon) who just lurk and then shit into other people’s replies just to troll.
Would be nice to have some of the Bluesky features for shared blocking and muting, as well as labeling.

You know what's nice? Terminals like kitty or alacritty, that work on both x11 and wayland. Makes for a more streamlined setup if you're using both. So, kudos to @… and his slackeroni repo, alacritty is in there (bcs of niri) as a ready to use package and has now been deployed by me on both Mate and Hyprland.
