Native forests sink more carbon than expected, inverse modeling reveals
A study has found New Zealand's native forests are absorbing more carbon dioxide (CO2) than previously thought. Study leader, NIWA atmospheric scientist Dr. Beata Bukosa says the findings could have implications for New Zealand's greenhouse gas reporting, carbon credit costs, and climate and land-use policies. The research was published in Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics.

The pressure dependence of the bulk modulus of glassy polystyrene (PS) was measured in the relatively high-pressure regime, up to 6 GPa, at ambient temperature. Given the ability to apply an unknown quantum channel acting on a $d$-dimensional system, we develop a quantum algorithm for transforming its singular values. The spectrum of a quantum channel as a superoperator is naturally tied to its Liouville representation, which is in general non-Hermitian.
