Just a little one and a half hour walk nearby before it was supposed to be raining (and rugby starts).
It was a nice walk and good to be out. Strangely, my old GPS device refused to get a location despite having lots of satellites. Just 10min before coming back (after a couple of restarts and taking the batteries out and back in) it worked.
Fortunately, I only had it with me to test if my heart rate monitor also connects to it.

A serene and inviting rural scene unfolds in this image, capturing the tranquil beauty of a forest trail. The foreground features a well-maintained gravel path, gently winding its way through the landscape. The path is bordered by a rustic wooden fence on the left, adding a touch of charm and guiding the viewer's eye deeper into the scene.

In the background, a cluster of tall evergreen trees stands majestically, their lush green foliage creating a natural canopy. The trees add a sense of depth…

Slowly getting into a rhythm to start the day with doing a print each morning, each time still tweaking either negatives, concentrations and/or durations of different processing stages to adjust tones/hues... A new adventure with some back and forth each time!
This print is of Langkofel / Sassolungo, one of my favourite mountain massifs, just such interesting features and so many dear memories, here seen from the east (around half and hour before sunset)...

iPhone photo of a 8x6" kallitype print of a photo of the Langkofel mountain massif with its talus fields and some scattered pine forest in the foreground. The sky is filled with layers of small clouds illuminated by the evening sun. The picture is surrounded by a thick dark brown border of the exposed hand-painted photo emulsion.

If you’re one of those people who *like* DST, you know you can just like… get up an hour earlier, right?
You don’t have to bend the world around your desire to do that. You can just go for it!
But DST is about as sane as if, instead of lowering speed limits, we changed the *definition* of an hour such that going 50 MPH was now 20% slower.
No, just lower the limit.
You don’t get to bend the whole world to fit your fucking morning routine.

With the eight week improv course ending last week, I timed it well to start a new group with a new set of eight sessions this week.
The Free Association seem more serious than Hoopla. They have 50% longer classes for a start. Three hours rather than two.
More instruction and notes rather than just positive encouragement. Clearer aim even from the early levels. More like a classroom than a playground.
First couple of sets of eight at Hoopla are just aimed at getting you to lose your decorum and allow yourself to be free and spontaneous. All really short form games, lightning rounds. Parlor games rather than theater.
But the Free Association's aim from the start is to get you building scenes and then stories. Their first set of lessons is titled "intro to long form". This one "Scene work".
Not so much the one minute parlor games, more focus on acting and characters and drama.
In vague terms at early stages that is. I mean, they have more in common than different. Plenty of short games in warm-up at FA and I just finished a whole set on drama and story with Hoopla.
Three hours is pretty long though. Starts half an hour earlier, ends half an hour later. Good thing it's also much much closer for me. Ten minute walk instead of 40 minutes on the bus.
We did lots and lots of first-scene head-to-head, mostly concentrating on trying to get specific. Check that after two minutes the audience knows where you are and who you are and how you know each other and what you're doing and none of the players are unsure either. Make it all specific as soon as possible, ambiguity is the enemy.
And everyone got that and exercised it pretty much flawlessly right away. So good group.

My main gripe with “AI coding” is that people present it in highly emotional terms as a fait accompli that will “change everything” instead of it being just another tool (that is one of many) to make software.
Like I saw a SERIOUS post today (not on here) from a tech guy I previously respected that was basically like a 90s infomercial with black and white video of working on a computer (labeled “without AI”) and then over-saturated footage of chilling in the pool or whatever shit (labeled “with AI”).
Not to mention there’s a constant barrage of “enjoy being poor” type bullshit.
This is abusive behavior; it’s emotional manipulation and gaslighting.
It’s cringe, as the kids would say.
I think the underlying LLM technology has use cases that are genuinely useful, for example when making explorative software prototypes, both for backend and frontend stuff.
But it's like a hammer. Useful for nails, useless for anything else.
And you got to ask where the hammer is coming from. Was it made with stolen metal? Forged by exploitative labor? Locked away in a data center so you can only rent the hammer by the hour from some business trying to do a bait and switch?
I'm hoping that the AI landlord industry dies eventually (signs point to this as they won't be able to fulfill the obligations to their investors) and people use locally-run stuff, ethically with open source models (without stolen stuff) and without ridiculous environmental impact in the future.

I've been working on a toy project that analyzes local ADS-B traffic (next to YUL), and alerts when planes are taking off and landing.
It's surprising to me how much the number of commercial planes at YUL changes throughout the day. There are clearly morning/evening/night rushes.
Looks like there's only one (or two) commercial plane(s) at YUL right now, but in 3 hours, there will be dozens of take-off/landing events in that hour.

Yesterday, I've read a vibe coded script for the first time in my life, and I've cried.
It wasn't ugly. "Ugly" is not the right term. It was as if someone wasn't able to comprehend beauty, but badly tried to mimic it. It felt like "malicious compliance" to beauty. The kind of awful verbose pedantry that feels wrong every step of the way.
It's the kind of code you'd expect in a corporate environment when you know that the code would be read by the top suits who have no idea about coding, but judge it by the volume and expect science fiction level of make-believe.
It's the kind of code is abstracted away into the tiniest details. Every function returns a complex dataclass explaining precisely what it did, for no reason at all. What would be two lines of code is a function. What would be a function is a whole module. It's a caricature of good programming practices.
I was supposed to add modifying a second field on the same object via GitHub API. I've guessed it would take me about an hour to figure out the code enough to be able to do that — what ought to be 2-3 extra lines. I suspected I'd discover that most of the code does precisely nothing. Just meaningless API exchanges that are absolutely unnecessary. It felt like the kind of parody of bureaucracy where you have to file 10 forms to do something, and only one of them actually means anything.
What used to be "do one thing well" became "doing ten totally random things is fine, as long as one of them happens to be what I need, and the whole thing doesn't blow anything up in an obvious way".
Perhaps it's just because this way a throwaway script. Maybe "production" stuff takes more, err, prompt refining? Maybe it actually can produce stuff that's comprehensible.
But if that code was any indicator, then I'm not going to believe that any big LLM contributions are actually reviewed by humans. A review will take more time than rewriting from scratch. This is a ticking time bomb. That LLM-generated code isn't introducing exploits right now is either a statistical accident, or it's just that nobody bothers.
Clarification: I didn't "prompt" it or request one. I'm not a hypocrite.
