Orchard orbweavers have eyelash-like setae (trichobothria) on their hind legs that assist in sensing nearby wing beats. It would be interesting to know what frequency they are tuned to. Pure speculation on my part, but would be cool if they are early-warning system for the parasitic wasps (Hymenoepimecis argyraphaga) that turn these spiders into zombies. Both males and females have them.
