After the latest update, my #Tolino has started crashing when turning a page in a book. But I guess such unimportant niche features don’t need to be tested well 😅.
Snark aside: it only happens on one specific book, so, no idea what is going on there. Since I was almost done with the book anyway, I started reading it using the phone app instead, and I hope that the next book will be less b…

Scanning the shiny plastic bio page of a new US passport can be tricky, though.
I will miss the old-fashioned passport stamps. They're the only way I keep track of where the hell I've been.

The Page Isn’t Dead, Your Attention Is Under Siege
Every few years we are invited to attend the same funeral. Someone declares that nobody reads anymore, that the printed page is finished, that books are an aging technology destined to become a museum object while the living culture migrates to earbuds and short video. It is a tempting story because it flatters our sense that we are witnessing a clean break with the past, a decisive turn of the wheel.

netpbm tools are a suite of tools to convert and fiddle with the ppm/pbm/pgm (collectively pnm) file formats, which are pretty much the simplest image formats on the planet, which even have an ASCII version; so if you have a simple script you want to generate simple images with they're a good choice of format, and if you have them, the pbm tools can convert to/from pretty much anything else or do simple scale/etc - lighter than ImageMagick say.

Will likely have it run OCR on a 250 page PDF to extract the full text and tables soon, at a cost of roughly 25 cents, if I read the pricing grid correctly. The initial test on a few representative pages was very promising. Next step is to give it a few pages of my terrible handwriting and see what happens 😅.

arxiv.org/abs/2512.09524 arxiv.org/pdf/2512.09524 arxiv.org/html/2512.09524
arXiv:2512.09524v1 Announce Type: new
Abstract: Neural decoding, a critical component of Brain-Computer Interface (BCI), has recently attracted increasing research interest. Previous research has focused on leveraging signal processing and deep learning methods to enhance neural decoding performance. However, the in-depth exploration of model architectures remains underexplored, despite its proven effectiveness in other tasks such as energy forecasting and image classification. In this study, we propose NeuroSketch, an effective framework for neural decoding via systematic architecture optimization. Starting with the basic architecture study, we find that CNN-2D outperforms other architectures in neural decoding tasks and explore its effectiveness from temporal and spatial perspectives. Building on this, we optimize the architecture from macro- to micro-level, achieving improvements in performance at each step. The exploration process and model validations take over 5,000 experiments spanning three distinct modalities (visual, auditory, and speech), three types of brain signals (EEG, SEEG, and ECoG), and eight diverse decoding tasks. Experimental results indicate that NeuroSketch achieves state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance across all evaluated datasets, positioning it as a powerful tool for neural decoding. Our code and scripts are available at github.com/Galaxy-Dawn/NeuroSk.

Btw you can literally throw a PHP page on a web server and it will work.
Nothing about web development has actually changed that much except that it’s much easier to make eloborate designs with less CSS than ever and also you probably don’t need any 3rd party libraries to do pretty stunning interactivity stuff.

arXiv:2511.09077v1 Announce Type: new
Abstract: This letter introduces the novel concept of Painlev\'e solitons -- waves arising from the interaction between Painlev\'e waves and solitons in integrable systems. Painlev\'e solitons may also be viewed as solitons propagating against a Painlev\'e wave background, in analogy with the established notion of elliptic solitons, which refer to solitons on an elliptic wave background. By employing a novel symmetry decomposition method aided by nonlocal residual symmetries, we explicitly construct (extended) Painlev\'e II solitons for the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation and (extended) Painlev\'e IV solitons for the Boussinesq equation.

webkb: WebKB graphs (1998)
Web graphs crawled from four Computer Science departments in 1998, with each page manually classified into one of 7 categories: course, department, faculty, project, staff, student, or other. All graphs included in a single .zip; also included are 'co-citation' graphs, which links i and j if they both point to some k. Edge weights count the number of links from i to j.
This network has 348 nodes and 33250 edges.
