I *always* used to get sick when I traveled on planes.
Now I wear a (kf94) mask in the airport and during takeoffs & landings, and I haven't gotten sick since I started doing that.

This is a very good article regardless, but it makes a point widely ignored in the age of GenAI:
"While our results point to real growth in students’ intellectual abilities and dispositions, they do not capture everything philosophers mean by “intellectual virtue.” Intellectual virtue is not just a matter of possessing certain abilities but of using those abilities well: at the right times, for the right reasons, and in the right ways.
Our measures do not tell us whether phi…

Jag har märkt att många tror att de får bra svar från olika AI verktyg när de i själva verket bara bekräftar det som användaren vill ha bekräftat.
OpenAI researchers reveal that large language models will always produce plausible but false outputs, even with perfect data, due to fundamental statistical and computational limits.

A stable reference is not necessary for meaning.
If ancient poems have no current similar meanings to use for construction or deconstruction, we all yet understand them as communications. Even over the years, and spaces.
Sometimes their meanings multiply.

If you see posts about how Netanyahu is playing Trump — which is plausible, Trump’s a vain nincompoop and people play him all the time — please •mind the undertone•.
Are they really taking about Netanyahu? Or is “Netanyahu” standing in for a larger group?
Is the focus on Trump being a gullible fool? Or is the focus on insinuating that some shadowy group secretly controls world politics?
Take a moment to digest this from @…, notice and recognize the pattern, and be aware as you scroll.

Thought: Philosophical arguments are like financial leverage. With them, you can bet on modest-seeming intuitive principles and come out with grand statements about the nature of the universe. But if your principles are even slightly wrong, your conclusions will be extremely wrong.

Can I get a Fedora user to test something on ngscopeclient for me?
Download the latest RPM from GitHub Actions CI (specifically the CI package, not one you've compiled yourself and install it.
Does it report a plausible version number
1) in the package itself
2) in the title bar
3) in the about dialog?
Just fixed a bug causing empty strings to appear instead of version numbers in the Debian CI builds and I'm not sure if Fedora was impacted too. It use…

From a story in today’s Wall Street Journal about Woody Allen and his new novel:

Though he’s already at work on a second novel, he rarely reads fiction—“I feel like I’m wasting time.”
More often he reads philosophy and books by physicists.
“I keep thinking I’m going to learn something of deep value that’s going to make me feel better in life,” he says.
“It never does.”
