As many of you know, I am taking a class here at UNC on Personality.
One of the tests to determine personality in our book was so incredibly
useful and interesting, I just had to share it.
Answer each of the following items "true" or "false"
1. I think beavers work too hard.
2. I use shoe polish to excess.
3. God is love.
4. I like mannish children.
5. I have always been diturbed by the sight of Lincoln's ears.
6. I…

The FBI director, Kash Patel, announced on Monday he was launching a criminal investigation
into group chats used by Minneapolis protesters on the Signal messaging app,
based on a social media post by the far-right personality Cam Higby.
Patel used the podcast of another rightwing personality, Benny Johnson, to break the news.
Higby had posted on Sunday on X that he had “infiltrated” a group chat on Signal,
the widely used communication app that offers effective…

The hardest part of being a moderator (of any community online or off) isn't dealing with the trolls, spammers, and assholes.
It's dealing with the personality conflicts between *mostly* well-meaning but not-handling-it-well people. It's the human aspect.
That doesn't scale to a billion-person platform, or allow for mods to be interchangeable cogs. Humans are hard, yo.
It takes time to train good mods for a particular community, and not everyone is up for t…

Robert Kaye, the founder of MusicBrainz, has died. Far too early. I'm sitting here, looking at the stickers he gave me. So many questions come up
Robert was a personality. He was loud, fun, thoughtful, determined, principled, noticeable. He lived. Uncompromising, yet deeply caring. Towering, and not merely physically. His hairstyles were legion and legend. He was a creator and a coordinator of mayhem and of chaos. He had all the skills of an engineer, and all the sensibilities of a…

Ask him about the bullying, intimidation and retribution meted out by Donald Trump and Maga acolytes following his appearance as a key witness in the first of the president’s two first-term impeachments, and he almost shrugs it off.

The racist online video that Donald Trump recently shared and then deleted generated a bipartisan furor
-- because of its portrayal of Barack and Michelle Obama as apes.
-- What was little remarked on was how it presented Trump himself — as the “King of the Jungle.”
After a year back in the White House, Trump’s efforts to promote himself as the singularly dominant figure in the world have become so commonplace
that they no longer seem surprising.

How informal is your prose? Is there a limit to informality?
I think that, even where you don't have a first-person narrator, prose in fiction should express the personality of the point of view character -- be similar to but just a little more formal than their normal way of speaking.

Ok, so this is kinda interesting, but we don’t need another pop-sci personality profile. Instead, people could read up on Albert Bandura’s theory of self-efficiacy, and how the belief in abilities being changable through our own actions—as also described by Carol Dweck’s growth mindset—is a characteristic of high self-efficiacy.
