Something weird is going on with my backup hard drive... when I plug it in, HardwareGrowler sends me a notification of a "USB Connection" for "Portable", Finder prompts to to enter a password to unlock the disk "Seagate Portable Drive", which it really ought to remember already, but I enter it anyways, and then... nothing happens. It doesn't mount or anything. But, it does show up under IORegistryExplorer. But not under Disk Utility, though (which appears to hang when I attempt to open it). Any idea what might be going on? This is a 2019 MacBook Pro (x86_64).

Just got a NewlinkX usb-to-rj45 ether cable - so the usb-ether is in the USBC plug; it seems to be an RTL8153 - it seems to be working fine - but that USB-C plug is *HOT* 🔥 - it's running at 54c (ambient is 28c) - and I'm not even shovelling much data.

Holy cow, Tailscale is cool.

Can confirm the Puck works with macOS.
Once you get past the Privacy setting configuration, Steam on macOS was able to natively update both the firmware of the Puck and the controller (needed to plug into each, one after the other) - which was pleasant to see, as that kind of thing can be overlooked
Also - in Big Picture mode they have a nice indicator for remaining battery life on the #steamcontroller
Overall, I think my primary usage for this will continue to be as a controller for #SteamDeck - but it's feels nice to have as an option for Mac as well

best secondary car-related purchase (trailer) i have ever made beside the next best car-related purchase i have made.
This trailer has been infinitely useful even if the car is not technically "rated" for it, a cross-Canada trip and endless runs to the transfer depot, stores, soil dispensary, and rock yard have made it a huge part of our home life. Even if the lights on it only work 75% of the time (seriously... how can they not make these things more robust?)
And the little electric pump is so great. Can plug in to both 120V home and 12V car outlet, has multiple ends for different types of tires and inflatable things. Great for home, car and camping. Set a PSI or kPa, hit the go button and it runs until the pressure is met.
Highly recommend! (both purchased at CanTire but the trailer comes from many places under different names (all made in Ontario). The pump is CanTire brand Motomaster

It can also cause brain damage in you, your family and pets.
Don’t dismiss this as “it’s only a day or two”.
The only way to be safe is to install AC in your home. Heatwaves are only going to get worse in the future.
There’s affordable portable units that you can easily set up on hot days that vent out a window opening.
They plug in to wall and can cool down a single room to more reasonable temps so you have place to stay cooler, plus they can also often double as heaters in case your heating breaks down in winter or you need some extra warmth.

Well, this was a chore I have been kind of dreading since last fall! Cutting, splicing, crimping and ultimately connecting and lengthening the cable for the water pump for the #poolpond. I did it, but I am tired and my hands hurt. 😂 😭
It’s a pretty straightforward thing… you cut the ends off the extension cord, cut it to length, cut the part of the pump cord you want to extend in two, and then set about stripping, crimping, heat shrinking, and taping, the two cables together.
But I knew it wasn’t going to be one and done. I started this at 4PM. Thought I had it almost done by 4:30 and then realized I forgot to thread the heat shrink tubing on first. 😣 doh
So I started over.
Then I got half way through try#2 and had to leave….
Came back to it just after 9PM… and spent the next two hours doing, and redoing, it. Until it was, I hope, good.
Won’t know for sure until I plug the pump in tomorrow.
Slightly nervous. 😬
