#Neurotypicals: You need to be bored. Next time you go to the gym, don't listen to that podcast. Just try to be in your head for a while. Maybe you'll think about the meaning of life, and maybe you'll figure it out.
My #ADHD brain trying to unload the dishwasher without a podcast: Hey, Remember the intro to Clifford the Big Red Dog? That song? You sort of paid attention to it for a few seconds while our kid was watching it. I remember those 5 seconds. Let's sing that intro... just that first part though. We're just going to keep doing that, over and over, hundreds of times in a row.
Neurotypicals: People don't like to be bored. People will give themselves electric shocks to not be bored. They don't want to think about the big questions

Honestly, between the fascism, climate records breaking monthly, and AI I'd say we've arrived at the singularity.
Since the pandemic I've been feeling it's pointless, but every day I'm more and more certain it's not worth investing anything "for the future" any more.
So yeah I'm probably buying a guitar

It’s full of good info, and it’s also a great example of people using multiple disciplinary perspectives to suss out a question. Recommended!

Harvard physicist Jacob Barandes returns with a groundbreaking insight that could reshape quantum theory.
By questioning a single hidden assumption, Jacob bridges the gap between classical probability and quantum mechanics.
This ‘mathematical accident’ challenges the foundations of Bell’s Theorem, dissolves the measurement problem, and opens a path to a realist interpretation of quantum physics.
This episode is a rigorous journey through stochastic processes, non-localit…

Great reframing by Malcolm Harris at 52:50 here: When a capitalist says they need more profit to invest in something socially beneficial like housing, that profit is a fee they collect from the public, and a blockage that exists *because* there's a capitalist class that controls the money we need. That's really insightful and I'd never thought of it that way.

This is gonna be great! This company has punched above its weight for years. A small team of like 6 talented people. My recommendation: Hire them to do some work OR support their Patreon, but definitely send them a good question.

@… Agreed. Now of course, maybe this simply isn't the question Even wants to ask, and he's of course free to pick what his polls are about. But *I* would wonder, before we talk about funding at all, what people think the answer is to "Should podcasts be a commercial activity?"
And to your point, would the answer differ from people's opinions…

Do you subscribe to a podcast that has over 800 episodes out and publishes 3 episodes/week?
My first reaction is to feel this is too overwhelming.
No way will I try to catch up.
Even worse, I won’t be able to keep up with it at 3 episodes/week.
Even if I’m possibly interested, the above two reasons make me question if it’s worth trying.
