It might be time for #dotnet conferences to reevaluate their value proposition to the community, or else they won't survive.
The "sales pitch" or "hype" model is less effective in drawing people, primarily when these elements exist online and are commoditized.

Today I saw this quote
> Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.
attributed to Francis M. Wilhoit. I took some political science classes from him at Drake University but couldn't recall him saying anything like this.
It turns out the quote was incorrectly attributed to him. It was really Frank Wilhoit in Ohio.

In the case of the Iraq war, the administration of George W Bush believed that Saddam Hussein was building weapons of mass destruction, and
– determined to act on that belief
– sought proof of its proposition.
Convinced that he was right,
Bush sought to streamline information that confirmed its bias.
What fell by the wayside were conflicting views.
Because intelligence is ultimately about assessing the likelihood of things which are difficult to know,

Objecting to this reasoning is how Proposition 4 passed with the majority of #Utah voters in 2018.
We know this because of how many rural Republican constituents showed up at public meetings th…

I guess I should add that Firebase’s security model is still broken in the sense of being dangerously easy to mess up (despite its maintainers’ heroic efforts), that this is a problem that’s fundamentally baked into it the product’s whole value proposition of eliminating huge swaths of server-side development and is thus not readily solvable, and that these ongoing Firebase breaches are a classic case study in how far and how stubbornly the effects of abstraction choices can reach.

Choosing a hash function for 2030 and beyond: SHA-2 vs SHA-3 vs BLAKE3
As everyone knows, "temporary fixes" are nothing but temporary.
Unfortunately, the same is true for cryptography: unless security is your core value-proposition, crypto algorithms are almost never updated, and that's how we end up with SHA1-hashed password in 2024 🤦‍♂️

is an increasingly popular electoral institution that has been posited by reformers and media outlets to produce transformative effects on electoral outcomes and representation.
This article finds no empirical support for the proposition that RCV changed fiscal outcomes or the ideological composition of city councils
— both on absolute terms and relative to mass opinion.
Furthermore, the roll-call based ideal points of legislators serving …
