Well, shit. Guess I picked a bad day to re-case my PC and upgrade the GPU. Everything went well until I tried to update the OS, which failed while tossing a Mesa dependency error. Did some checking, and it seems to just be a Mesa issue I can't really do anything about ATM. So I'm stuck in 4K/basic graphics driver mode, with screen tearing a-plenty, till tomorrow? Hopefully? lol.
The new case looks nice at least.
Very funny, #Sun: many of the small groups on the disk have flared in recent days - (1)4298 on the far right in this SDO HMI view https://jsoc1.stanford.edu/data/hmi/images/latest/HMI_latest_Int_4096x4096.gif from today just this morning with an X1.1: https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=1260371819450012 - but the big ones 4294 (center) and 4296 (left) that had received a lot of media hype and even press releases like https://www.dlr.de/de/aktuelles/nachrichten/2025/erhoehtes-sonnensturm-risiko-dlr-beobachtet-weltraumwetter-in-echtzeit have remained completely quiet during their march over the solar disk which is coming to an end soon.

Over the past couple weeks, I've been designing a spool with some particular features in #FreeCAD, encompassing 6 parts to 3d-print. I've been manually re-orienting them when I print them.
Now that it's working, I realized that I could use the FreeCAD Assembly workbench to create a good packing of the parts in the right orientation for printing, saving anyone else who wants to prin…

"No group in America has fallen further, faster than young men. When I began talking about this several years ago, that was a controversial statement, especially on the left, where many pathologize masculinity.
While the right has suggested the solution is to take women and non-white people back to the 1950s, the left’s view is that young men don’t have problems, they are the problem.
Neither attitude helps."

Hey all,
today was a totally grey day. Very low hanging clouds. Actually a superb inversion -- if I would have had the time for a walk to the mountains. Yet other topics were on my schedule for today.
But hey, this is what photos are for: having memories about good time, right? I wrote more about it here: https://www.

Unfortunately, I’m hearing what @… said through other channels as well: it appears to be nothing more than a geographic shift. Someone just posted that Roseville (north / northeast suburb) is “swimming in ICE” right now.
Godspeed to the suburbs right now. I hope we’ve been able to pass along enough of what we learned here in the heart of the city. The sprawl is going to make rapid response a lot harder out there….
(If you can’t view post: it just says ICE was swarming the southwest MSP suburbs yesterday.)

MicroSucks STOP WITH THE CHANGES! I had Word showing one page as my default view. Today it switched to multiple pages. I DIDN'T GIVE YOU PERMISSION TO CHANGE THAT SETTING.
Small change, but one I should not need to make! I think they are annoyed that I changed from Edge to Firefox.
Also, annoyance is that in SharePoint using Firefox I MUST sign in every site I open. Massive (middle) finger pointing right now.

Great darkness is coming ... huge #sunspots galore rotating onto the disk now as in https://jsoc1.stanford.edu/data/hmi/images/latest/HMI_latest_Int_4096x4096.gif from 25 minutes ago. We knew what was in store: https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=10236046194988615 and https://www.spaceweather.com/archive.php?view=1&day=26&month=11&year=2025 - Perseverance on Mars has a view of the 'far side' right now and saw the groups a few days ago with its non-astronomy camera.
This video essay about the look of Sinners (which was shot on 70mm IMAX and Ultra Panavision) brought up something I hadn't realised until now: the large format gives you a wide field of view with the look of a telephoto lens! What that means is that you get shallow depth of field like in closeup shots with the framing of a wider angle lens.
Personal observation: there's also very little barrel lens distortion that usually comes with wide shots on 35mm.
Front yard garden as we head into Australian summer. Those beans on the right are 4 metres tall. Tromboncino battling it out with grapes for the pagola that shades all the east side of the house - green air conditioning for the summer. Tomatoes, capsicums, eggplants ripening, cucumbers to give away, snake beans coming on, carrots & fennel flowering to feed nectar to the ladybugs & make seed, so many geen beans I'm leaving some to mature. Onions & garlic nearly ready. Still p…

Some photos from today's hike in the mountains. To escape the fog.
It was very very icy at the bottom. And I was super happy to have my micro spikes.
The way up was pretty calm. Right the #silentsunday I had desired. At the summit there were a bit too many people and I didn't see proper motives. So I just enjoyed the view and the really warm temperature.

Memory in the Meme
We live in an age of disposable context. We scroll through the infinite ribbon of the glass screen, pausing only for a microsecond to register a flicker of recognition before sliding our thumb upward, condemning the moment to the digital abyss. We have been trained by the Technocrats, those right-brained architects of our algorithmic prisons, to view this behavior as consumption.
