Lately, I’ve been feeling burned out by how much people in my life assume things about me and my beliefs, so let's talk about it.
I spend some parts (not all) of my evenings online, usually from around 20:00 to 22:00 or sometimes even until midnight (00:00), not because I am consumed by politics but because I like to learn and reflect on how society could be better. I enjoy exploring ideas about justice, solidarity, and human rights in a way that feels meaningful to me. For me, spe…
I also want to be careful about protecting our upstairs neighbors who are renting. I'm especially curious if there's anything we can do to help build solidarity with them.
The odd thing about being in solidarity with Americans who don't want a king seems odd coming from the citizen of a country that has a King as it's head of state.
He's relatively new in the job, but we kind of had a fondness for his Mum, who incidently served in WWII against you know who

Trump's attacks on Venezuela are just fascism in action. They should be condemned as such by everybody.
However, Maduro's Venezuela applauded Putin's actions in Ukraine: nazism in action. Repeatedly.
So there's that. If he ends up as a target of an American bullet, well, fuck him. He'd simply get for himself what he was all too willing to accept for others. He doesn't deserve a shred of solidarity.

But how we get there is a whole different story, one shaped by struggle, experimentation, and the collective reimagining of what freedom and solidarity truly mean in practice.

I have always envisioned a union operating autonomously from capitalist structures, organized horizontally without hierarchical authority, embodying direct workers’ self-management and solidarity, aimed at dismantling hierarchical power and creating a society structured around the needs and capacities of people rather than profit.

Digital ID – The New Chains of Capitalist Surveillance
[…] From passports to colonial passbooks, from welfare cards to border regimes, the apparatus of identification has always been tied to domination. Digital ID is simply the latest iteration of this long history, but with a scale and sophistication that makes its dangers even more profound. […]

What is #degrowth?
We offer a definition wherein the fundamental core is the planned reduction of energy and material use to keep within planetary limits, while the associated 'pluriversal' belt of concepts and practices is also essential to degrowth.

"In Al-Mughayyir, a village near Ramallah, more than 3,000 olive trees were bulldozed by Israeli forces, part of a broader pattern of destruction. Similarly, Deir Ballout has been targeted once again. It’s where, in 2021, Zaytoun customers helped plant 2,000 olive trees with the Palestine Fair Trade Association to replace those previously destroyed by Israeli forces."

In light of "Antifa" being designated a "terrorist organization," a (very mildly) good thing that anyone can do is say publicly: "I am antifa."
Antifa is *already* a decentralized non-organization, but throwing up enough chaff that dragnet "surveillance" of online spaces becomes useless is a good thing. I promise you really don't want to live in the world in which whoever the president considers "antifa" has been hunted down and locked up, but thankfully, the president doesn't have the resources to make that happen without lots of local police cooperation. Local police are generally champing at the bit to bash leftists under the flimsiest of pretexts and already have programs doing undercover surveillance of leftist spaces, but they also don't want to look like fools or be mocked by their communities, so a strong public response indicating sympathy for and/or real solidarity with "antifa" could influence things right now.

I hold that genuine freedom can only be realized through the direct self-management of labor and the collective organization of social life by those engaged in it. No political vanguard, governmental apparatus, or capitalist hierarchy can provide emancipation, it must emerge from the autonomous initiative of workers acting in solidarity, constructing federations of production and community based on voluntary association and mutual responsibility.
For me, anarcho-syndicalism represents …

Someone I know was subjected to racist slurs, brutally beaten, and nearly killed for standing in solidarity with Palestine in the early 2000s.
If you love Marshal Kim Jong Un, the so-called "beloved" dictator of North Korea, where people are forced to bow down not out of respect but because the regime literally outlaws standing upright for more than three seconds to prevent neck strain then I see you as enforcers of authoritarian misery not my comrade.

The most exploited stand in solidarity, the most silenced raise their voices the loudest, and those most broken by oppression carry the deepest wisdom. All because they know no one should endure the suffering that they themselves have endured.
Here is CUPW's fact sheet on Postal Banking “A Bank for Everyone”
Fun fact!
"our post office used to have a national savings bank – up until 1969 – and there is no reason we shouldn't have one today”
Some other reasons:
"Banks are failing to meet the needs of a growing number of Canadians. Thousands of towns and villages across our country do not have a bank. But many of them have a post office that could provide access to financial and banking services.”
"Postal banking is lucrative!
New Zealand: Kiwibank generated 81% of New Zealand Post's after tax profits.”
"France: Banque Postale has an obligation to provide products and services to as many people as possible. It provides a Livret A or passbook savings account, at no charge, to anyone who requests it. It also provides banking services to the financially vulnerable and financing for social housing, voluntary organizations and microentrepreneurs lacking bank credit.”
"Canada Post's secret postal banking study
Canada Post conducted a secret four-year study on postal banking that indicates that adding this service "would be a win-win strategy" for the corporation. This study was obtained though an Access to Information (ATI) request. Unfortunately, 701 of the study's 811 pages were redacted. CUPW has asked Canada Post's President to release the full report, but he has refused.”
